It's an Ibis Budget - you get what you pay for, i.e. a room and a bathroom. It's no-frills, designed for people who just need a bed for the night; not a five-star luxury hotel. It's the hotel equivalent of flying Ryanair.
Yes, the rooms are small, but absolutely fine for my needs. The bed is firm, but I like it that way so this wasn't a concern. The room was clean, the bathroom spotless, and the shower good quality - and it was within the room, not shared, which is always a bonus.
I checked in late at night and wasn't too impressed with the receptionist. He was very blunt and just seemed keen to get rid of me as quickly as possible. He didn't provide me with the wifi password, and I didn't realise the wifi was free until the following day. Service could be better in that regard.
The location is good, very close to Lyon Perrache station and within a couple of minutes' walk of tram line T1. I walked to the old town from the hotel, which took about 45 minutes but was easily done (apart from the hill climbing!).
