“typical hostel”
Close to the Picadilly line at Russell Square but that station is always very full and you can only take the lift to the platform unless you want to walk 175 steps of stairs, which is hard to do especially when it rains. So allow yourself an extra 15 minutes to wait for and take the lift. The laundry room was a wreck. The hostel was always packed, the music was too loud in the lounge area to concentrate on any real computer work needs. The breakfast was only cereal, toast and coffee, tea, or juice. I had to eat a lot of toast because of my lactose intolerance. On the plus side, the neighborhood is quiet with great little pubs and eateries close by. They had great meal specials inside the hostel for a great price, too, and they have large and clean women's bathrooms with plenty of hot water.
“Decent hostel”
This was my first hostel stay, and was pretty much as I expected. I had a bunk in a two-bunkbed room (four person). Kind of a toss up as to the calibre of your roommates. As a primarily youth-targeted hostel, it was pretty bustling with activities, noisy at night, etc. Be prepared to sleep with earplugs (and possibly a sleep mask for when your roommates come in at 3 AM). The breakfast was good for being free, and the free wifi was nice in the lounges. Overall a decent experience, and good value.
“Good hostel, I would definitely go back!”
Good neighbourhood, friendly staff, tasty continental breakfast, everything was okay apart from the false fire alarm at 4 a.m.!
“Good budget hostel, great facilities”
Near Russell Square, 10 mins walk. I stayed in a 4 bed girls dorm. Good location, handy to thetube. This is a ‘trendy’ hostel, with its own bar and breakfast area. Breakfast is included in price. Hostel is very big, but kept very clean considering. I stayed 2 nights which was manageable if you are not used to hostels.
“Decent hostel in central London.”
This was my first stay in a hostel and the only thing I would do different is stay in an all girl dorm. I take that back, I would also take another pillow or buy a cheap one when I got there. If there was anything to complain about, it was that the pillows were flat. To be honest, the hostel was just a place to sleep, so I really didn't spend any time there.
“The Generator was perfect.”
Very busy place but staff was very helpful and nice. Everything was kept very clean and organized. It served its purpose of being a no-frills place to keep my stuff, sleep, and shower while I enjoyed London. Met a lot of interesting people while staying here. The place is mainly geared for a younger crowd but did not feel out of place being older(40), actually met some folks older than me!! Great location, lots of food choices close by and a few nice pubs. Right between two tube stations, Russell Square station was the one I used most, not as big or busy as Kings Cross.
“Wouldn't go back”
Shower rooms were under construction for the entire nine day stay there, necessitating travel toanother floor to shower (and rude stares from teenagers.) Showers were irregularly hot and cold, making a shower a mildly nerveracking experience. Worst of all, guests are permitted to yell, sing, slam doors, propositon each other LOUDLY and even box each other (no kidding) in the hallways all night long, making sleep impossible. I quickly grew tired of mingling with hundreds of restless and sometimes-rude 18 year olds constantly and would not return. Lastly, breakfast is all carbs-- not very healthy.
“Good for the price”
I stayed in a four-bed room. The hostel is huge (about 800 beds), so it is somewhat noisy in the mornings and in the evenings. In my room, there was one person snoring, and the floor was not very clean. But the bed linens, the toilets and the showers were perfectly fine, which is probably the most important. I'd say the hostel is quite good for the price, being dramatically less expensive than any London hotel, especially in this great central location. Do not forget to bring a lock for the locker in your room and a towel (although you can always buy these and many other necessary things downstairs).
“Cheap hostel worth every penny.”
London Generaton Hostel was exactly as I expected for the price. It was clean enough for a hostel. The sheets weren't changed everytime I asked but it wasn't as dirty as many had said hostels could be. The showers were clean which was nice. The staff was overly friendly and quick to help out. If I visit London I will stay here again.
“Cant wait to visit again and I will stay at the Generator again!!!”
Overall a great trip. Thank you Expedia!!!
