Awesome wee piece of paradise!
We were really just wanting a roof over our heads for our friends wedding in Tata Beach...but instead we found a real wee piece of paradise at John and Pene's place. It's a little bit of a shock to the system using a compost toilet (and showering on the deck), but the tranquil, private location meant we could really relax and unwind - surrounded by the fantails and Weka. The home-grown fruit and vege's were a nice touch too. Fully recommend this to anyone!

A Beautiful and Rustic Getaway
We had a wonderful time staying here. The location was excellent because of its proximity to Ligar Bay, Tara Beach, and Wainui Bay. The bed was very comfortable and the view was such a treat to wake up to each morning. The indoor/outdoor shower and kitchen made the experience feel connected to the stunning natural surroundings. And the hosts were fantastic communicators and very hospitable. Definitely would recommend staying.

Quirky cabin oasis
We loved our time here just wish we could've stayed longer, will definitely be back one day. We enjoyed swimming at the beach at Ligar Bay and Tata beach, Wainui Falls walk and a pub dinner in Pohara. Handy location and a very quirky wee cabin with everything we needed to enjoy a getaway.

Perfect getaway
We had a wonderful stay at the woody retreat. Heard frogs, and even some kiwi’s at night. Beautiful views and a fully equipt kitchen. Definitely will come back when in the Golden Bay!

Stunning & Relaxing!
This is a beautiful place to stay. Everything is so well thought of. The kitchen has everything you need. The shower was amazing. We loved the fresh salad and herbs left in the fridge on our arrival as well as the amazing tea, dried by Pene. Full of bird life, frogs, Pukeko and even hearing resident kiwis in the night! I would definitely recommend a stay here it was just perfect - We will be returning most definitely.

Really lovely stay here, loved the outdoor/indoor living. Pūkeko TV was gripping viewing in the evenings😆 Lying in bed listening to the beautiful dawn chorus in the mornings was such a wonderful way to wake up.

Very clean and perfectly located. Nice for everyone who enjoys it to be directly in the nature. Everything is designed very detailed and you can see that there’s a lot of heart that is being put in the hut ;)

I unfortunately didn’t get to meet John & Pene, but also know they respected my privacy during the stay. This is a little piece of heaven with the cheeky Piwawaka birds being a highlight. Such a beautiful place to get away from the city. Golden bay always having a special place in my heart every time I go. Loved the outdoor shower and big comfy bed with stunning views. I appreciated everything about this cabin. Provides vegetables for us. Facilities were all there. Was very quiet, hearing only nature and rain. Heaven. Walking distance to the beach. Really enjoyed everything. Would highly recommended booking here again.

John and Pene are amazing hosts, everything was super tidy, love love love the outdoor kitchen and shower was so nice to see wekas and fantails everywhere. Felt indulged into nature and such a natural way of living. Would recommend staying here if coming to Golden Bay! The nicest beaches are only down the road and such a private location. Thanks again !

I loved this place! It had charm, character, privacy, quiet, wildlife. Felt like I was living alone in the NZ bush, yet it was close to beach, transportation. Hosts provided fresh fruit, vegetables upon arrival. Hosts were gracious, responsive. I’d stay there again and I will recommend it to friends.

A perfect place for us as eco minded woodworkers looking for an off the grid private relaxing time and so close to all the natural beauty theTasman area has to offer. John & Pene gave us absolute privacy and took care of our every need including fresh garden greens in the fridge when we arrived and our Weka friend was delightful. Very comfy bed and lovely outdoor covered kitchen/shower area had all we needed. We really did not want to leave! Thank you John & Pene:)

Quiet retreat
Gorgeous little getaway with stunning native bush surrounds and a view to the beach. Very cosy, very private - it was the perfect way to relax and unwind for a couple of days. The beach is a short walk away, the dawn chorus was beautiful and listening to the frogs was lovely. The wonderful hosts even left some home grown greens in the fridge for me on arrival. Highly recommend!

Gorgeous spot in an idyllic situation
We loved our stay in this Eco cottage, it was cosy clean and we loved the open kitchen bathroom unique and fabulous. Perfect jumping off point to explore the area. Highly recommended. Loved the bed, slept so well.

Quirky but cold...
Though we enjoyed our stay, this accommodation is really only suitable for a summer stay. Cooking and shower facilities are outdoors, albeit they are under a roof. We struck a cold few days in March and were grateful for the small diesel heater once we'd worked out how it functioned. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed produce left by the owners. The owners were discrete, emptying the composting toilet while we were out. The bed was small, high off the ground and required the agility of one occupant to scramble over the other for their space in the bed!

Glamping experience in paradise
Highly recommend staying at this property and will be back! I enjoy all the aspects of camping while on holiday and this made it all a lot easier. So peaceful and surrounded by nature this quirky accomodation was really something special. The hosts were both very accomodating and checked in to make sure things were okay. What a find, the owner have put together a very comfortable one bed Bach. I would highly recommend a stay. Sunning short drive or walk to amazing beaches and local shops. We really enjoyed the view and the comfort of the accommodation we will be back one day.

We were so very impressed with the presentation, the setting, the consideration of the owners, the "artfulness" of the buildings and of course the location. It was " just the thing" . Wonderful Eco Stay with generous, kind hosts
A wonderful place to unwind and relax. Stunning location and well designed for comfort and relaxation. We arrived to fresh vegetables from the hosts own garden and a offering of fresh raw milk. Kindness that seems rare in todays world. I would love to make this eco stay a regular holiday destination, I would give 10 stars if I could :)
