Slow living
Just what we wanted. Slow days, sunshine and no distractions. Time to do word puzzles, paint pictures, press flowers, cook pancakes and talk. I enjoyed these precious few days with my three kids. And the delightful setting made it all the more special. Thanks to Kate and Simon for sharing your beautiful property with us. The dogs made quite an impression on the kids too!

Cute cosy cottage
Overall we had a great stay, great communication with the host Kate. My only issue was the doors not locking, with the door handles being at toddler height, my 2 yr old was able to get outside whenever he wanted.

As a Family we needed a quite getaway and this was the perfect location for peace and zen
Kind and friendly welcoming and easy communication with the owner Kate . Accommodation was clean and cosy in such magnificent peaceful country surroundings Extensive history of the historical property was given and you were instantly made to feel right at home. To the birds upon waking to the wisoer through the trees at night this was just what us busy city people needed to reboot and recharge for the nrw year ahead. We have already planned our next weekend stay very soon.

Gorgeous stay gor family with dog
We had such a lovely tine on this property with our dog. Fully fenced little cottage where our dog was happy to remain while we went out to The Springs Hotel for a lovely meal - just 10 minutes down the road. ... but able to take her for walks down to the lake for a swim. Our dog thought she was in heaven and we absolutely loved the cottage too. Great communication from Kate who managed our stay. We just loved the entire experience! Thanks Kate

Perfect romantic getaway.
Perfect 5 stars, drenched in history Mount Mitchell Estate should be on everyone’s list to visit. The property was clean, tidy and very inviting. My wife and I felt relaxed as soon as we walked in the door, out dog also had a great time with lush lawns to run and roll around in. The hosts are extremely respectful and friendly, great communication with arrival details prior to our stay. Thank you very much for a wonderful experience.

Gorgeous property
The cottage is just gorgeous, as is the property. All of us enjoyed it , including our dog ! Kate was super friendly and checked in on us after our arrival. Just keep in mind there is no wi-fi and the tv only has minimal channels and unfortunately for our stay the DVD player didn’t work , so maybe pack a laptop 😆 We enjoyed the food at the Avoca pub and visited the Talbot farmer market too, lovely little getaway.

Thanks for your lovely comments. I am sorry you couldn't get the DVD to work. I was actually using it (listening to the Moulin Rouge soundtrack) while I was cleaning the cottage for your arrival. As it is an inbuilt DVD/TV, it can be a little confusing - I will assist future guests with some instructions, that may be helpful. It was lovely to meet you all. Kate

Weekend getaway
Very short notice booking made very easy by Kate. Lovely old cottage on a stunning estate. The dog loves exploring - particularly the mud puddles - and it was great to let him out the door and know he was contained. Beautiful location and so blissfully quiet. Thank you so much for our great stay.

Great place
Great cottage, but listing said you could pick vegetables from the veggie patch, not a very good veggie patch. Also catch yabbies' but they have no nets. Other then that great place to unwind and relax.

We chose this property over another because we really liked the idea of a farm experience. From the description on the website we were expecting to be able to pick fruit from the trees, collect eggs from the chicken coup, pick vegetables from the garden and experience a little of the farm life. Unfortunately, none of this occurred as there was no fruit on the trees, no veggies in the garden and no eggs to be found and we not invited to participate in anything. Also, there was no real indication that the property is so far from any shops or restaurants, luckily we brought some food of our own. We were also disappointed that there was only 1 teaspoon in the kitchen, the heating in the house was inadequate and it was very cold, we had to ask for more firewood, the hot water ran out after 1 1/2 showers, we had to ask for a power board to be able to plug in the 2nd electric blanket. The setting is beautiful and the environment is certainly peaceful and relaxing, however we were expecting more for how much we paid.

Unfortunately in winter there are only a few fruit trees with fruit, plenty of lemons , quinces and figs which Ivor was welcome to pick. Also at this time of year vegetables are still growing and not quite ready to gather up. There were plenty of herbs (rosemary, mint, chives, garlic, sage, borages, dill, thyme and oregano) and rocket, artichokes, rhubarb. Ivor was welcome to gather. As for the chickens laying eggs, this too is a seasonal concept as at times hens “go off the lay”, I’m not really sure why. Ivor and his partner were invited and attended a historic tour of the grounds as part of the Ballarat Heritage Festival, which other attendees paid for. This included a Devonshire tea. We have a standard hot water tank at the cottage, so perhaps very long showers were taken. There are two radiant heaters and a wood fire heater in the small four room cottage. Wood was gathered for the guests. I am disappointed that Ivor has written such a review, as whenever we spoke he seemed to be happy and enjoying his stay.

Perfectly peaceful
I could feel all the cares of the world disappear just opening the gate to this cottage. It’s location is great for exploring the Pyrenees, but it was even better to come back to, just to be. The beds were beautifully comfortable and it had everything you could want or need. We had the opportunity to walk around the property to see the orchard and kitchen garden and just take in the views. Our dogs didn’t want to leave. The yard around the house was perfect for them to run and play and even nicer for us just to sit and watch them. We had good phone reception at the front of the cottage, but there was plenty to do without checking in online. Highly recommend for both a short and longer stay.

Fantastic surrounds and gorgeous cottage accom
Gorgeous historic cottage. Clean and tidy and well appointed and self contained. We had a very restful and relaxing stay. Pet friendly was a must for us and gardens were enclosed, but not lockable, our dog felt comfortable too. Mobile reception was limited inside the cottage, had to walk out into gardens to pickup signal. The historical immersion of mount mitchell and the homestead was a delight.

Beautiful cottage on an amazing estate
My family and I had a wonderful stay. The cottage was clean, comfortable and cosy. The kids enjoyed playing board games in front of the fireplace and the estate had stunning grounds which we were encouraged to explore. A lovely way to spend a long weekend!

A wonderful place to stay and a beautiful area
The cottage we stayed in was very well kept and clean. A very comfortable bed and couch to laze about on after a busy day of driving and site seeing with a fireplace to use, supplied with wood, to help keep you warm on a Winter's night. Go visit the Avoca pub for a nice meal and a drink with a friendly atmosphere. The host, Kate, was very nice and great to have a chat with.

A lovely little getaway
We had a wonderful little getaway in this cottage in the Pyrenees, and we’re pleasantly surprised by the quality of dining & experiences at nearby Ballarat! Our 2 dogs had a ball also, with the highlight being our wander around the amazing historic grounds of the property including through the fruit orchard & kitchen garden. Kate was friendly & helpful but also let us enjoy our privacy!

Just what we wanted
Four of us stayed for one night for a quiet New Years Eve get together. The cottage was lovely, clean, well equipped, and just like the pictures. The Mt Mitchell estate was great to walk around, and we especially enjoyed meeting the dogs. We'd definitely like to come back some time.

Fantastic Property Even better Hosts
For a 140-150 year old cottage it was in pristine condition amidst beautiful grounds on an historic homestead - fortunate to be there over Aus day weekend and hosts invited us for a drink with friends from across the district- very hospitable and good fun group of people. Close to myriad of wineries and other small country towns. A great central spot. Our dog enjoyed the place as much as we did.

Stunning cottage in beautiful private country setting
Loved every moment of our stay, we had everything we needed, a cosy cottage, loved the wood fire, comfy bed & a yard for our dog to hang out in & not get out. Took a little while to get used to having no internet or phone coverage but helped to make our weekend perfectly relaxed.....And the property was amazingly beautiful!

Stunning property
This cottage is set in a gorgeous property. There is a lovely fire place, however this needs to run all the time in winter as other heating except in one of the bedrooms. Everything was clean and comfortable. The host and host family are lovely. we really enjoyed our stay and the chance to explore the area.
