“Very comfortable, quiet hotel.”

We had a very pleasant 4 night stay at the Hyatt Regency - it was clean, quiet and very comfortable. The staff were extremely helpful and polite. The hotel was quite well located - a 5 minute taxi ride from the main train station. We used public transport and taxis to get around to different parts of town (we were travelling with 4 young children who weren't up to walking long distances). Wireless internet was available in the hotel lobby, but not in the hotel rooms.

“Needs Work”

Have lived in and traveled to Japan for over 30 years and have been fortunate to experience a good many lodgings modern and traditional - this Hyatt needs some serious reflection on what a 4-star hotel needs to be. The best thing about the room was the good-sized Japanese soaking tub and rain shower hardware, otherwise decent enough and quiet but not what I would describe as luxurious. Additional JY1,500/day for internet is irritating given cost and class of hotel. This hotel is quite expensive but stark lobby, bland interior design and pricey restuarants are all marginal by other Kyoto, Tokyo and U.S. standards, certainly not what I associate with Hyatt Regency. Although it was the busy October season the staff, although polite enough, seemed very limited, only 1 person at check-in counter initially. Restaurant staff seemed primarily interested in pressing us for additional $90 bottles of wine during dinner - we subsequently stuck with external Kyoto cuisine which is fabulous. This may be a case of a well-known hotel that happens to be in a superb location taking advantage of a steady flow of tourist traffic. Given the great selection of other hotels in Kyoto we will take our business elsewhere in the future - sorry, but not impressed.

“Unparalleled service; English-speaking oasis”

Kyoto Hyatt Regency ended up being the finest hotel I've ever stayed in Japan.Every service person -- from the desk to the restaurants to the front door -- was kind and attentive. You won't lift a finger. You'll feel dirty not tipping these people! Tourists: The entire staff was helpful in recommending sites to visit in Kyoto. Even our waiter at the Italian restaurant had great recommendations! If you're visiting from the Western world, you'll definitely appreciate all three restaurants. Americans used to a hearty breakfast should definitely try The Grill's delicious breakfast buffet. This is the only place in Japan I've seen crispy bacon. Japanese food in Kyoto is amazing, but sometimes it's nice to have a taste of home. English speakers: I'm an American that speaks Japanese, but I never had to flex that lesser used language muscle as the entire staff spoke impeccable English. Even the person who brought our bags to our room spoke beautiful English! I'm Asian, but being married to a blonde with blue eyes had the staff's "English switch" on, and they always greeted us when we came back to the hotel: "Welcome back."

Getting around
There's a bus stop right outside the hotel, and a line of taxi are always waiting. If you don't mind a 15 minute walk, you can take a nice neighborhood stroll to the city's main station, Kyoto Station. From there, you can go anywhere.

“The best hotel experience in our Japan tour.”

The Kyoto Hyatt Regency exceeded our expectations in every way. Our room was very well appointed and spacious. Service levels were exceptional. All staff were competent in English and assisted with all our enquires competently and efficiently. The bar and restaurants were great! The hotel is located within easy reach of all the main cultural tourism sites in Kyoto. We were always made to feel welcome and would certainly visit this hotel again!

Area recommendations
In Kyoto there are many areas to visit, both central, east and west of the city. All are worthwhile. If you lkike to wlak, it is possible to visit most of these attractions on foot. However, Gion District, home of the Geiko and Meikos is a must, along with the famous shrines and temples within walking distance on the Eastern side of town.

“Contemporary Japanese chic”

We loved our recent stay at the Hyatt Regency Kyoto. From the moment you walk into the gorgeous lobby you know that you are in for a special stay. The staff are charming and helpful, in particular the concierge staff who were most helpful with bus passes and transport suggestions. The room was wonderful- very modern and extremely comfortable with lovely Japanese touches (the headboard) and an amazing bathroom- one of the best I have ever seen. The hotel just oozes chic- the lobby, the rooms, the spa, the food outlets. We did not eat in the hotel as there are so many wonderful restaurants in Kyoto- a look at the restaurants menus confirmed that they are very expensive. A cup of coffee in the restaurant one morning cost me 800 yen which is expensive by anyone's standards! After a day's sightseeing though it is great to come back to the Hyatt, a haven of peace and quiet and a very stylish place to base in Kyoto

Area recommendations
The whole Higashiyama area of Kyoto is very special and is where the Hyatt is located. It is within walking distance of many of the main temples and the Gion area which is beautiful. One of the best things to do is to visit the Ginkakuji Temple and then walk down Philosopher's Path to the Nanzenji Temple- it was particularly beautiful when we were there with lovely autumn colours.
Traveller's tip
I would definitley recommend visiting Japan in the autumn when the weather is really beautiful. I have been twice this time of the year and sightseeing is a real pleasure- it is sunny and bright and pleasantly warm during the day and cool in the evenings- perfect for wandering around and visiting all the temples.

“exelent !”

The service level at this hotel was many steps above What is familiar to us in Europe & USA and even few steps over other hotels (similar price level) in Japan that we staid during this vacation . it was exceptional ! The hotel location is very good . it is foot distance from the main shrines & Temples of Kyoto.

Traveller's tip
I traveled with my spouse and my 3 children So we had to order 2 rooms 1 regular room for me and my wife and one room for our 3 children (16) (14) (8) the room for the 3 people (2+1) was little bit more expensive but it was worth every sent . the room contained 2 beds one bed was King size (or even larger) and the second bed was Queen size . So the children accommodated very comfortably.

“Not up to Tokyo standards”

Hotel was clean, comfortable & pleasant but expensive, not really close to places for dinner or areas to explore. Concierge was overwhelmed and had little time to help with reservations or even suggestions. Rooms are small and bed is more like a futon. Waitstaff was exceptional! If I go back to Kyoto I would stay some where more central.
