“Affordable but you need a bus pass”

I had some trouble finding the hotel. The location is not ideal with a 30 minute walk to the nearest subway. Still there is a bus stop nearby. Other than that, the capsule itself is OK, especially if you spend all day walking around and only want to sleep. However be warned that the showers are collective, so you might find yourself with a couple of naked Japanese businessmen at the end of long day. Also, two out of three toilets are Asian style however, that is normal in Japan. The people at the reception are nice and helpful. There are lots of temples nearby and the main shopping area is a 15 minutes walk. Right next to the hotel you'll find several small and cheap restaurants, as well as two small convenience stores. On the whole, if you are looking for a place to pass the night and don't want to pay much I would recommend this place.

Area recommendations

There are gardens and temples everywhere. I would recommend them to visit as many as possible. The Imperial palace is very nice, but do make a reservation armed with your passport. Also the Nijojo castle is fantastic.

When to go

Autumn, around november. The color of the trees are beautiful.
