I literally booked this hotel 12 hours before I checked in, I was greeted most warmly and the staff was always willing to help (although I will agree with one previous review that mentioned a language barrier but that was only with one of the staff), breakfast was abundant and yummy, my room was extremely clean and on the night it rained and I wasn't able to go out I used the DVD library and got a few movies to take to my room. There are plenty of bars/restaurants/massage places close by and the hotel offered a shuttle to and from Chaweng (though one night they forgot to come pick me up and I had to pay 300bht for a cab). The pool was nice and quiet all in all a nice stay, My only negatives I would say about the hotel are, they need to get new cushions for the loungers (as the current are kinda ratty and in my deluxe room I have to say the lighting was horrible, at night I would turn on the one measily overhead light AND the desk light AND the light over the window seat and I was still unable to read a book in bed. Even during the day with the lights on and windows open tried sewing on a button and I could barely get enough light to see to thread the needle,I finally had to go outside in the heat to do it. But given the price, location, amenities etc I don't think that these to minor things should discourage you. I would def stay here again in the low season.

Neighbourhood recommendations: The area near the hotel had plenty of places to eat/drink, not a ton of shopping but basica could be found very close by and as I was there to eventually go to full moon party on Ko phangnan it just so happened that the speedboat shuttle I booked was only a 2-3 minute walk down the beach from the hotel

When to go: personally I would stay here again maybe only in the low season, mainly because I got such a great deal. I found myself spending a bit of time in the CHaweng area (more bars/shopping etc and more chances to meet other travlers) and the hotel offered a shuttle but only at 3pm and would pick you up at 930pm so if you wanted to stay later or head in later you were paying 300bht (almost $10) a pop. I think I would look for a place closer to that area but it depends on what you are wanting to do in ko samui

Very nice hotel, especially for young couples

We had a very nice stay at Puunpreda Hip Resort. We spent 13 days in Ko Samui and the room (garden villa) was great. I would suggest not no stay in a deluxe room(cheaper prices): we stayed there for 2 days and the difference in quality and comfort is significant. If you can, I would advise you to visit other islands as well (Ko Phangan and Ko Tao)and not to stay more than a couple of dayx in Samui.
