Take a moment to reflect on John F. Kennedy’s defining role in American politics, as well as his untimely death, at this poignant memorial.

The John F. Kennedy Memorial is a seaside tribute to the 35th president of the United States of America. It is fittingly located in the Cape Cod region in which he spent many pleasant days. Ponder the impact of Kennedy’s death and take a relaxing stroll around the surrounding park.

Located in the town of Hyannis, the memorial is close to the Kennedy Compound, a regular retreat for the prominent political family. The memorial marks the 1963 assassination of John F. Kennedy during his presidency and is one of several Kennedy-related attractions in town.

The memorial is a dignified tribute to the fallen president. Stone walls flank a portrait of the president. The memorial is bordered by a small hedge. In front of it, a small fountain complements the structure. Take a few minutes in this quiet space to pay your respects to the president and to think about the role Kennedy played in world affairs, American life and the Cape Cod community.

The small park surrounding the memorial has fantastic views of the ocean and provides a pleasant spot to walk and breathe in the salt air. If the weather is good, consider bringing along a picnic, which you can eat while basking in the summer sun. While you are here, stop at the nearby Veterans Memorial Park, another popular green space in which to relax and reflect. Look for a memorial to the patriots of the Korean War, featuring a statue of a soldier.

You may choose to view the John F. Kennedy Memorial as part of the Hyannis Kennedy Legacy Trail, a 1.6-mile (2.6-kilometre) route through Hyannis that will introduce you to some of the key sights in the town related to the Kennedys. Pick up a map from the John F. Kennedy Museum, the trail’s starting point, or download it from the Kennedy Legacy Trail website. Parking is available at the nearby Veterans Beach for a fee.
