“Fairly Good Location”
This hotel is located within walking distance of the Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar, Hippodrome, Topkapi Palace, Ayasofya (Hagia Sophia), and the Yerebatan Saray (Sunken Palace Cistern). Its walking distance from the tram station as well. Try the restaurant on the top floor, it has a great view of the sea. Overall, I was quite satisfied with this hotel for price, location, and service.
“Comfortable, quiet, hidden gem”
I was really impressed with the Grand Yavuz - the rooms and public areas are newly renovated, modern, and nicely appointed. It didn't feel like your typical old European hotel. The location is conveniently located and there are plenty of shopping and dining options nearby. The main downsides are that I found the hotel staff fairly cold - not rude or unaccommodating, just cold and not particularly friendly. The breakfast, while fairly decent, doesn't change from day to day, so by day 3 I was definitely tired of the spread, and I was a bit annoyed that the hotel charged extra for fresh juice at breakfast. All in all, I'm fairly satisfied with the Grand Yavuz and plan to stay there on my next visit to Istanbul and recommend you do too!
“Wonderfully relaxing modern hotel in the old part of Istanbul”
This hotel was amazingly located in the old part of Istanbul, which ever direction you headed out of the hotel to get anywhere you had to either go up hill say for instance out the hotel and straight up for the Grand Bazaar or down hill to some local news agents and some local shops. Don't be worried when you first get there and your being driven to the hotel into what looks like a crumbly town compared to the sites you saw on the drive from the airport. The staff are amazingly helpful (when asked) and generally willing to help. They aren't like most other places where they will constantly come up to you asking if you need help, they will help and follow instructions when asked, which is great for someone who doesn't want to be hassled and wants some peace and quiet. The buffet breakfast is okay with all sorts to eat and drink, I know everyone says they charge for orange juice (which is freshly squeezed in front of you) and they do but there are other drinks available for free. We didn't enjoy the outdoor restaurants as it wasn't the time of year for it. The staff are very helpful with providing information about local events and eataries. Take full advantage of the shuttle bus service to and from the airport for by the hotel as it's a lot cheaper then anything private.
“Perfect crib in Istanbul”
Hotel is in Sultanahmed neighborhood - very ancient and "local" neighborhood. Staff was there to meet me at 2AM and negotiated my fare with taxi driver ( Currency is Turkish Lire - NOT Euro. Don;t pay double the fare in Euro). Hotel very clean with excellent bell and wait staff - excellent wireless network for business traveler. Breakfast has large variety and very local fare. Nothing is Istanbul is "close by and convenient" I picked this hotel to experience the older buildings and surroundings. The prayer call wake up from the mosque was "lovely" at 6am... Beds were small and rather hard. When in Rome.... If I wanted a Westin, I would have stayed at home...
“Good quality for the price”
The room was clean, pleasant, and above average size for Eurpoean hotels. The concierge and other staff were knowledgable, very heplful and spoke excellent English. Iate one time at the resturant, good food, service and reasonable price and the view was beautiful. The Continental breakfast was more than adequate in selection and variety. i would recommend this to others.
“This hotel is under rated--I would go back in a blink”
I took a chance based on another reviewer's report, but found that review to be highly inaccurate. First of all, the hotel is a four star hotel (not 2 1/2). My bath was all marble and big. Recently rennovated rooms. Roof top restaurant with very good (not outstanding food) that was authentic and reasonably priced with superb views. There is a Turkish Bath in the hotel. Breakfast is huge and includes hot food. Location is perfect: a few hundred yards (250?)north to Grand Bazaar; a few hundred (400?) east to the Blue Mosque, and then you are in the heart of the Sultanahamet district where the major sites are. The tram stops about 4 short blocks away which will take you anywhere. Staff spoke English quite well.
“Turkish experience”
Good hotel located in the old town, near the 'shoe quarter'. Hotel Turkish bath is a must.
“Definitely recommend this one”
Very nice hotel that is well situated in the Old City (which is where you want to spend most of your time) It has a quaint restaurant on top that has a fabulous view of the Bosphorus. The only complaint would be that the view we had from our room was rather obstructed. Other than that everything was great.
“Reasonable quality for short stay”
Reception and porter staff welcoming. Corner twin room rather cramped for 2 people to move around and to access occasional table and chair tucked tight in corner of room beyond bed. Also luggage rest allows for only 1 suitcase. Air-conditioning not very effective but room had own safe and bathroom was roomy with powerful shower and plentiful supply of hot water. Hotel sited near bottom of steep hill from which is uphill on foot to attractions, so possibly not suitable for less fit or active visitors.
“Fine, not great or bad but just fine.”
Not a bad Hotel, not too sure about the 4* though, felt more like a solid 3*. Staff are OK if not a little cold, very unlike the people you'll meet in Istanbul. Location is good, about a 10 minute walk from all of Istanbul's sights on the golden horn, but be prepared to walk uphill!
