“Great spot for first time in Istanbul”
The friendly and helpful staff make this hotel exceptional. From the moment you arrive, you are offered suggestions for touring the city, great food, and must see attractions. The room I had was clean and seemed newly remodeled. The bed was firm like say a piece of lumber, but I slept very well. The Turkish breakfast is huge and really pleasant to share with other travelers.
“Outstanding Service”
I have spent a career travelling the world and staying in top hotels. Having been to Istanbul many times on business I wanted to return to enjoy the city as a tourist - but this time at my own expense. The Basileus Hotel proved to be a really excellent choice. The location, just a few hundred yards from the Blue Mosque, was excellent and the hotel was well appointed and very clean. The continental breakfast too was first class, with a wide range of choices. But what really makes this hotel special is the friendly and unhesitating service from everyone involved and most partticularly from the manager Yusef. Nothing was too much trouble from restaurant recommendations and bookings, directions and tour arrangements to offering us a drink everytime we entered the hotel. One evening when the directions to a local restaurant proved a little complicated a member of staff was sent to walk us there to be sure we found it. All of this was offered with a gracious smile. This may not be the fanciest hotel in Istanbul, and certainly not the most expensive, but it would be hard to find a more welcoming and service minded place.
“Basileus Hotel - Loved it!”
We had an outstanding experience at the Basileus Hotel. The staff arranged for our pick-up at the airport for a very reasonable rate (20 euros). When we arrived at the hotel check-in was simple and we were shown to our room. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. We returned to the lobby and the owners sat with us to tell us all about Istanbul. We were only in Turkey for a 24 hour lay-over, but wanted to make the most of the time. The owners helped us plan out our day and told us all the great sites to see! Breakfast is included with the stay as well. It is a full spread and they even offer to make omelets. Highly recommend this hotel! We will stay here again on our next trip to Istanbul.
“A hidden gem!”
Unimpressive exterior, but once inside everything was excellent. Simple check-in procedure, friendly & very helpful staff. Nice room with comfortable armchairs & footstool, small balcony, wardrobe, safe & minibar. The double bed was too hard so we slept on top of the duvet & under the blanket. The aircon/heater was good. The walls are quite thin so we could hear other voices. The bathroom was in excellent condition, but the bath was too small for me at 6 foot. My wife is 5 foot 4 & she loved it! There is a shower too. Breakfast was plentiful & varied, & included a freshly-made omelette to go with everything else. After a long day sightseeing there is a convenient restaurant just across the road where the staff are as nice as the hotel staff, & the food & prices are very good too.
“Great stay”
Lovely stay. Definitely recommend this hotel!! Staff are very helpful and friendly and the hotel has great location.
“great location and staff”
Stayed at Hotel Basileus for 7 nights in early November during our first visit to Istanbul. A fairly priced, clean, and well maintained three story property with good size rooms. No restaurant (has breakfast room) or elevator, but well worth the money. Located near all the major sights in Sultanhamet. A 10 minute uphill walk to the, Blue Mosque, Aya Sophia, Basilica Cistern, a small bazaar, tramway, ATMs and money exchanges. A 15-20 minute walk to Grand Bazaar and main shopping streets. Many restaurants within a 5-20 minute walk include Seven Hills (fish restaurant with rooftop dining and outstanding views), Armada (good views of Blue Mosque, Aya Sophia, and the Bosphorus), Sokullu (warm, cozy neighborhood place), Amedros (outdoor dining, Turkish cuisine), and Cesme (a refuge across street from hotel). A 20 minute taxi ride to Chora church and Asitane restaurant (both well worth the ride) , Spice Bazaar and other sights. Staff is terrific. All speak excellent English and everyone is friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful.
“Basileus Hotel-Excellent”
The Hotel was very good and very clean. The staff at the hotel were brilliant and made us feel like family. They were on hand to meet all our requests. The Hotel was only a few minutes away from main Sultanahment square and therefore within walking distance, I would definetly recommend this hotel.
“Best hotel near the blue mosque and Heliopolis”
The reception staff couldn't do enough to assist you, especially Yusef. nicely done out hotel, good breakfast and so close to Places of interest, eg blue mosque, hagia sophia.
“Great Location”
I got the hotel name from Trip Advisor and am pleased with the recommendation. It's in a very convenient location, walking distance to the main attractions in the old town. The staff was extremely helpful and the breakfast was delicious and lots of variety. It will be a good idea to get their location map as the taxi driver had a difficult time finding the hotel.
“Excellent hotel”
Excellent hotel in a great location, and with really friendly and dedicated staff. They went through the city map with us, their restaurant recommendations were superb, and on several occasions they went above and beyond with their helpfulness! Very much recommended!
