    Irun is an industrial and commercial city in northern Basque country, just across the Bidasoa River from France and 3 kilometres upriver from Hondarribia. Although Irun has the look and feel of a modern city, it is home to historic attractions such as the 16th century church of Santa Maria del Juncal and the hermitage of Santa Elena, built on the site of a Roman necropolis.
