“Close to everything but with a neighborhood feel”

While it's only a block away from Granada's main convention center, this hotel has a neighborhood feel and is in walking distance to the central shopping area. Hotel Saray is modern and well kept. We stayed in a family room, which was quite spacious and comfortable. Hotel staff is friendly and multi-lingual. Bus stop is a block away and Granada's public transportation can easily access the main attractions and sites. Breakfast selection is somewhat limited, but there are several spots to choose from within a couple blocks of the hotel.

Must see
No trip to Granada is complete without seeing the splendid Alhambra, the Cathedral, and the Albayzin quarter. The Sierra Nevada national park is a 30 minute bus ride away, and has great views and hiking.

“Nice hotel, slightly inconvenient location”

Easy to get to from airport; bus drops off just a block away in about 20 minutes. It's an easy walk into town from the hotel but not very scenic. Hotel breakfast was great but a little pricey...other choices for breakfast are limited. Eating highlight was Cunini Restaurant where we had fabulous seafood platter on menu del dia.

“Granada Experience”

The Saray is just on the edge of town in a residential neighborhood near a grocery store and local eateries friendly to children. My initial reaction was that for the first time expedia let me down because the the hotel seemed a bit dated in terms of general upkeep and the computer systems for registration/check-out and internet services available to patrons. However, the individual rooms and daily service were excellent. Although the staff had limited English language proficiency, they were really supportive of our attempts at queries in Spanish. Although the pool is beautiful, it was too cold to swim on this early June trip. Room service is fast and the food is decent. There is a kids menu (but don't order the pizza). The hotel is not stituated in the city center, but it's a nice walk to town for dinner and there is a fabulous park a short walk along the main thoroughfare for those travelling with small children (not the one just a block away). There is a grocery store just across the bridge to town to stock up on bottled water and other items children might need. The Alhambra is only a few minutes away by cab (buy your tickets before you leave) and the Flamenco show in the caves of Sacramonte with a tour of the Albacyin and evening views of the Alhambra should not be missed.

Area recommendations
Although the tour books discouraged individuals from being the Albacyin at night, during the organized tour we took as a part of the flamenco activity we saw families dining alfresco and walking about this area close to midnight. I wished we had spent more time exploring this area.

“Good Hotel, a bit remote”

The Saray is a standard business class hotel. Very nice accomodations, a great pool area, but a bit removed from central Granada for a tourist visit, a good 10 -15 minute walk for sightseeing, dining etc.

Area recommendations
Albaicyn is the old city, and the most interesting for touring, sightseeing, dining, etc. The central city is also very attractive, albeit can be a bit crowded and noisy if you are staying there.

“Wonderful Place to Stay While in Granada”

Three couples stayed at the Saray and all of us loved this hotel. The rooms were very modern and clean. Every detail to make your visit relaxing and easy has been though out. The staff at the hotel was amazing. Angel at the front desk even set up a van to take us on a day trip to Nerja. He even gave us his cell number (as it was his day off) in case anything went wrong. The pool was wonderful and the price for food and drink not bad for a resort. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Granda. While it is not in the old section, the walk to all the sites is pleasant. We were there during holy week and even all the processionals came by. Amazing. One recommendation. Make a reservation if you are going to Alhambra as you will not be able to get in if you just go that day. (That applies to everyday, not just Holy Week or the high season.)

“Nice hotel in good location”

The Saray is a nice, clean hotel in a good location. It's about a 10-15 minute walk to the town center. The staff was helpful and friendly. They gave me a room on the second floor. I asked if they had one available on a higher floor, but they told me that the newer renovated rooms were on the lower floors. So, I took it. It was very modern and nice. I needed to extend my last day check out, because my train for Barcelona wasn't leaving until 10p that night. So, they kindly offered to give me a late check out for 8:30p for a half-day rate, which was incredibly helpful. I'd stay at the Saray again.

Dining
There's a good family-run Valenzuelan tapas restaurant just around the corner from the hotel. It's not a pretty place, but the food is very good. I'd recommend it.

“Nice hotel, only had a short night there”

Nice hotel right in Granada, seemed to be a short walk to the main parts of town, but as I was only in town for a quick night I only made it as far as a few blocks to the nearest good restaurant. Parking was a touch expensive, but in hindsight it appeared that on-street parking would have been available for free right around the corner.

“Friendly Hotel”

Very friendly staffs. There were nice pool outside, although I couldn/t swim due to busy touring. Bit far (15 min walk) from city center, but worth to stay with this price and service.

“we would return in a minute and easily recommend Saray”

We did all our planning on-line for the first time. This was stressful as neophites. We were so lucky...all our reservations were better than expected and good value for $ (CDN) The hotel was great, blend of travellers and ages. Quiet, and the pool was a social point, breakfast was perfect, service was great. ONE note of INFORMATION.....messages at the Saray are received on your TV......not on the phone....or written under the door!!! BE SURE TO CHECK AT THE DESK FOR INSTRUCTIONS!!!!!!! give this hotel your considewration.....we would return!!!!!

Area recommendations
Alhambra (book ahead) and see the surrounding area the next day, wander the city, see flamenco dancers, Arab baths....check with the desk at the Saray, eat tapas, plan for a time of local celebration....we were there for Corpus Christi which negated ANY shopping and we loved the experience. This is a great place to "chill out" as our kids would say......few panhandlers, great local and international restaraunts, Granada is now perhaps a favourite destination recommendation and the Saray was ideal. We love history and people watchers but are not re-visitors to high profile places like London or Paris, we prefer smaller with other places of interest....Granada is like Lyon or Milan vs Paris or Rome The Saray offered a great neutral, safe, quiet, and calm night.
When to go
May, early June was ideal....weather was warm, (we travelled internationally with one carry-on and a back pack each for 17 days travel including business suit for a wedding at the end of the trip) crowds were minimal. We travelled by train from near Cadiz, transferred at Dos Hermanos to Grenada. (eurail pass was easy but remember to book next trip each time you arrive in each city) with no problems. Loved the trains. We used public transportation and taxis as much as possible. Cost for taxis was less than $10.00cdn to most places. We walked lots in Granada because we like the feel of knowing where we are in a city. Sneakers and sandals are good, most places were relaxed, cathedrals did not require women to cover shoulders, but carry a "scarf'" just in case. We are new to this type of travel, but if you do your homework and read the reviews you should be fine.....we loved the Granada, hotel, transportation....and have no negative comments!!! If you have longer than three days or are keen to "see' everything" a trip to Seville is a thought. For us, maybe next time. We have absolutely no regrets and now have more confidence in using on-line bookings.. .
