“Great location and views - right near Palace”

Great location outside the gates of Alhambra. Even so area was fairly quite. Easy bus to city (I think 30 or 32) and to views overlooking palace - a must to see. There is a hotel at the bottom of the hill you can go to for a drink that overlooks the entire city.

“Great location sets the hotel apart.”

If you want to visit Alhambra, you can't do any better than this. The hotel is basically across the street from the ticket-office and entrance to Alhambra. Very clean and comfortable rooms, albeit a little small, but well worth the cost. Finding the hotel was a bit challenging, but just follow the signs all the way to the Alhambra and you'll go right to it. One other trick to keep in mind--the "desayuno libre" doesn't mean it's a free breakfast, it means you can keep going back for more for one price.

“Not a 4-star hotel!”

This is not a 4-star hotel, particularly if you are from the US. It is generally run-down. Service is really awful, front desk rude, had to ask multiple times for towels, etc. Rooms are very tiny which would be OK, but the walls are paper thin. We could hear people coughing and talking (every word they were saying) in the next room. The shower is the smallest I have ever seen. Mold in the showe, leaks all over the place. Rather uncomfortable to say the least. Bed uncomfortable as well. Would not recommend to anyone. Service bad - attempted to fix several issues with front desk to no avail. Spoke with manager who was also extremely rude. Location is nice but there are other options!!!!

“Best hotel to visit Alhambra palace”

The hotel location is the best thing about it, just across the road from Alhambra palace. Also you can walk down to the old city , takes 10 minutes walking. There is a bus which goes there also every 10 minutes from the Alhambra. whe we initially arrived by car we had trouble to find the hotel , the road ends at entrance of Alhambra car park, so we had to ask people and one man helped us and he drove his car and we followed him through difficult way for around 10 minutes before we arrive to the hotel entrance. He asked for 20 Euro for his help! We then realised that we could actually go into the Alhambra car parking directly and park our car there and then walk for two minutes to the hotel enterance. The hotel reception is good , they speak english . The rooms are very small. They gave us a room with twin bed though we asked for a double bed, toilet is clean. Breakfast was good also. The Alhambra palace is only across the road and the old city is just 10 minutes walk.

“Not the best, but okay.”

The location is good, right across from the AlHambra. It was a long, steep hike from the city up to the hotel. We highly recommend the use of the bus. But definitely walk down if you are able. It is a beautiful walk. If you are going to see the AlHambra, definitely buy your tickets in advance or be prepared to be in line at 6:30 a.m. the day you want to visit. Even in August, the low season, it was a very, very long lines and we ended up with afternoon tickets and were rushed through the palace area, never seeing it all.

Area recommendations
Either the AlHambra area or the downtown location is great. The city is small enough that you will be comfortable with it within a day or two. Make sure you explore past the downtown shopping area toward the train station. Most people miss the old walls and gates in this area as well as some of the beautiful churches that aren't on the major sightseeing lists.
When to go
August is low season. It is hot, but things are cheaper.
What to pack
Sunscreen! It appears as if they don't sell it anywhere in Spain.
Must see
AlHambra, walk down to town from the AlHambra, Cathedral, Arab markets.
Shopping
Everything generally closes on Sunday. Tourist shops stay open until 9 or 10 p.m. This is definitely a cheaper area than Cordoba, Seville, or Madrid. Make sure you purchase your inlaid boxes and chess sets in Granada. You will not find the quantity, quality or pricing anywhere as good as it is in Granada! My daughter truly regrets waiting and hoping to find them someplace else. I got mine, she didn't!

“Not the Parador, but very close to it”

We booked one night at the Parador for the sake of being there, but couldn't enjoy it because we went sightseeing until late, The parador is beautiful, but they take your money senseless. Alixares is very close to the Alhambra entrance, has a passing restaurant and it cost a third than the Parador. Do your math...

Area recommendations
You got to go to the Alhambra of course. Get there as early as you can, the visit is long and you will get tired. But if you wait and start late, it will be excruciating (I can tell you!). Go to the Albaicin and walk your heart out until sunset, it is beautiful. It get extremely hot in summer so be prepared. Immerse yourself in the moorish ambiance and enjoy.

“In front of the Alhambra”

This is a 1 night stay hotel. Since it is in front of the Alhambra, people go there just to go to the Alhambra and an overnight stay is enough to do that. So, the lobby was very busy with people checking in and out all the time. A bit noisy but perfect location to visit the Alhambra.

Getting there
Very easy. No need to go to the town of Granada. Just follow the signs to the Alhambra.

“Right across the street from the Alhambra”

This hotel was right across the street from the Alhambra and it was very clean and the food was very good and the staff was helpful and most could speak English although they would indulge you if you wanted to try out your High School Spanish. The pool was a nice treat after walking around the Alhambra for most of the day.

Traveller's tip
Take the night bus tour of the Albycin from the hotel with a visit to the Gypsey caves and Flaminco dancing.

“Great location and great experience.”

This hotel was just across the road from the Alhambra complex and had it's own parking lot. It was easy to take the bus into the city. The pool was a great refuge from the afternoon heat. The buffet breakfast had plenty of choices.

Traveller's tip
Several restaurants are close by but we enjoyed the outdoor one across the street just next to the Alhambra.

“The Best!”

Hotel Alixares is right across the road from AlHambre. The service was friendly, the buffets--especially breakfast--delicious and economical, the swimming pool was a hot weather refuge. All around it was great.

Traveller's tip
Al Hambre is across the road--make reservations 1st and avoid lines of hundreds of people.
