“This hotel should be a 4 star hotel not a 3 star hotel!!”
By far this was the best hotel we stayed in Italy. The receptionist greeted us with a sincere smile and was very helpful. He gave us information on how to get to downtown, a map and told us where to buy the bus tickets. We booked two rooms for only one night. Both rooms were big and had showers that were standard size to the U.S. traveler. The water pressure was great, with hot and cold water all the time. One of the rooms was missing a fridge but the other room had one that actually made drinks cold (unlike any other hotels where we stayed where the fridges were only for show). The breakfast is extra, but it's worth it. It has a great selection of hams, prosciutto, yogurts, coffee, tea, bread and so on. If you're driving (renting a car) it's a great option because you don't have to worry about the ZTL in Florence, and you can access downtown in 10 minutes by taking the bus. Check out is at 11am, but you can leave your bags outside if you plan on heading out later than that and you can actually leave your car parked in the hotel as well at no extra charge. This 3 star hotel gets 5 stars!!
“Oasis in the city”
A true villa in a pleasant garden setting not too far from the heart of Florence. It's a healthy walk or easy bus or taxi ride to the historic area. A walk through Boboli Gardens can be on the way. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. The rooms were very comfortable and quiet. Parking availability is a great bonus.
“Serene and comforting”
I lived in Florence for a couple of years and recently had to return for a short trip. A dear friend had passed and I was looking for a place not far from the family and didn't need to be too near the center. I was very comfortable in my large, very clean, fairly pretty room. I loved the helpful staff, the bus straight into the city was a short walk away. If you felt like walking down to Palazzo Pitti or the Ponte Vecchio leave about a 20 minutes to a half hour. Area is very lovely - Villas and Villettas abound. The room was very warm, heat was great. Bed was firm but comfy enough. Very fluffy cappucchinos. I loved the breakfasts - continental with a great choice of cereals, pastries, breads, yoghurts, etc. My stay was off season so I cannot say whether or not noise from adjoining rooms was a factor. I loved the huge bathroom as well. Other than a much pricier 4 or 5 star nearer to the center, this would be my pick every time.
“Quiet retreat”
We stayed at Villa Betania for a two day visit to Florence. It is near the bus route, which takes you directly into town for 1.20 euros. The room was clean, quiet, and had great air conditioning (which is not always the case). The breakfast garden was lovely in the morning. We had a rental car and there was plenty of parking. This was our favorite hotel on our two-week vacation. We did end up doing a lot of walking since it was a good distance from the city center and the bus was not always at a convenient time.
“Great hotel outside of city center”
If you're looking for easy walking access to downtown, then pick another hotel. Otherwise, I would highly recommend Villa Betania Hotel. The setting is beautiul, the staff was helpful, and other than a minor mix-up with wake up calls, everything was perfect. This is a GREAT hotel if you have rented a car -- lots of parking and easy access to major roads.
“Peaceful location - lovely hotel”
The hotel is a tranquil retreat after the bustle of the historic city centre. Whilst not central, it is on a bus route - if you prefer not to walk. The rooms are spacious, tastefully furnished and decorated, with good en suites. The staff are helpful and pleasant and the reception staff speak excellent English If we return to Florence, we will stay there again.
“Countryside in the city”
The Hotel Villa Betania is a very pleasant 25 minute stroll into the heart of Florence. Surrounded by tree lined avenues, the hotel is situated in its own grounds. The hotel which I believe was originally a residental property has been turned into a rather nice small hotel with a lot of character. The area is quiet and the abundance of trees and bushes makes it very rural, although close to the centre of Florence. When the weather is good breakfast and drinks from the bar can be taken outside. I found the staff to be very friendly and extremely helpful with information on Florence, and booking taxies to the airport, etc. The hotel is clean and well maintained. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
“It was great”
Everything was great. Especially guys at the front desk. They were especially helpful with directions and maps. Breakfast was really good, fresh every day in pleasant surroundings. The only thing we did not love was the TV, all channels in Italian or German. Would have been nice to have one station with english speaking shows.
“It is a hike to get to town, but perfect nonetheless”
If you book this hotel, know that it is about 1.5 miles to the Ponte Vecchio. Don't complain about it! You should have read up on it. Besides that, this place is great. From a very good and varied breakfast, to free parking and free internet, to great customer service, and a clean, comfortable room to boot. If the walk sounds like a good way to work off the extra pizza, pasta, and gelato, then book this place now!
“Very Good Hotel to Explore Florence Area”
Villa Betania Hotel is a very good place to explore Florence and surrounding area (good value). The staff is friendly and helpful. To leverage the location use of local bus system is essential and the tourist information office can provide a map of bus routes. The walk to Ponte Vecchio via Porta Roma is a down grade and takes about 20 to 25 minutes. Bus number 11 covers the distance in about 10 minutes. Review based upon length of stay 6 nights in early May.
