One of the largest cities in the world, Tokyo is a bustling, unique metropolis that is filled with history. This locale manages to seamlessly mingle the old with the new, the natural with the synthetic. Tourists gather in this location in order to bask in the extraordinary cityscapes and gaze at the awe-inspiring mountains to shop for the latest gadgets and take a peaceful moment to soak up the spirit of the many shrines. This city can be rather expensive; however, cheap flights to Tokyo are easy to find if you do your research first.

Best time to go to Tokyo

    Peak Season:

From April to May, then again in September through to November, the city sees its shoulder season. Although many tourists come to this destination to enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms bloom and the stunning foliage develop, flights to Tokyo are not usually expensive. The only exception to this is during the national holiday known as Golden Week, which can bring about large crowds of both tourists and locals.

    Shoulder Season:

From July to August many of the citizens of Japan leave the city in order to avoid the exceedingly warm climate. However, tourists still gather in the city in order to sight-see, observe the Obon celebrations, or take part in one of the many festivals.

    Off Season:

The off season, from December to January, is the best time to find inexpensive flights, as most tourists prefer to stay out of cold. Given that the city becomes less crowded, this is an excellent time to visit some of the more popular landmarks, like the Rainbow Bridge, or one of the numerous shrines and temples.

    Tokyo Airport and transfer information

    Narita International Airport (NRT)
    Distance: 64km northeast of Tokyo
Two of the most inexpensive methods of ground transport are the Keisei Limited Express train and the shuttle bus service. Although relatively cheap, these services can take more than an hour to arrive in the city. For a higher price, you can take the airport Skyliner train, which arrives in under 36 minutes. Alternatively, you can take a taxi; however, this is by far the most expensive method of ground transport.
