“Stop-Over Appropriate”

I stayed here in early October 2011 for one night as a stop-over before flying home. It was a clean hotel, no frills, well-priced. Perfect for a night or two (max) if you're in transit. There IS a McDonald's outside where there happen to be some shady characters hanging out - my boyfriend and I were approached at our car in the hotel's parking lot by a homeless man asking for money. Not pleasant. Again, if you're in transit and need a clean, decent place to stay, go for it. Definitely not in a great location though, so it's not a place I'd recommend for a full week.

While this particular hotel has seen better days - it needs some serious refurbishing and updating - it is still a great place to stay. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the location is good - and there are some great local restaurants nearby (a Chinese buffee and a Greek cafe are our favorites). You are a short drive to the ocean - lots of state and county beaches - which make this a great stay. The breakfast is adequate, and while we didn't use it, the pool looked pleasant enough. We'll still stay here next time we're back in Arcata.

We stayed there while visiting the Humbolt State University campus for my daughter, who will be attending this fall. The staff at check-in was great, gave me the low-down on where to go and how to get to the best beaches. Also gave us an early check-in. The room was clean, smelled good and was warm and quiet, even with a traveling band checked in on the same night. The only thing that is really important to me at a motel or hotel is the bed. That's what I go there for and I want a really good bed. The mattress was very comfortable, even for me (used to memory foam), the linens were nice and the the comforter was clean. The rest is all extra. I wish more hotels would concentrate on providing an excellent sleeping experience and not worry so much about the rest. Sleeping somewhere besides home should be as comfortable as possible and the Best Western Arcata has the right idea. Big, comfy towels too!

We've stayed at several different motels and keep returning to this one! Overall services and staff support are outstanding. Good sleep, clean room, lovely basic 'continental' breakfast. Our family dog is very welcome, they even gave her a couple of biscuits! They work hard to keep their premises clean and neat. Cannot find fault with anything. Thank you Best Western Arcata!!!
