“For once you can trust this Bank!”
I had studied for months on my trip to Edinburgh, location, sites and places to stay...I have to say all honestly this is it! Located on the busy intersection of the Royal Mile and South/North Bridge this Hotel is the best of the best! Each room was decorated differently and the beds are so comfy!... I though sleeping on top of a bar would be trouble..but this couldn't be farther than the truth! The rooms located behind and on top of the bar...are quiet! I know I didn't believe it myself but it was very peaceful and if you get hungry or would like a drink...well you're just above the bar! For the price and the free breakfest! My trip was fantastic... The Staff are very friendly and the crowd the bar draws are also very nice people!...If you're going to Edinburgh for site seeing...I offer two peices of advice...1) Stay in Old Town as much as possible 2) Sleep at the Bank it's location can not be beat! Thanks Jonny
“Quirky, but excellent”
The Bank Hotel is a trip. The rooms are themed, so the decoration is not your standard hotel fare. The room was spacious, the bed was large and comfortable, and the accommodations were generally excellent. I enjoyed my stay a great deal, but I can't guarantee that everyone would appreciate the experience. The rooms are above the bar, which is lively. I stayed out until bar close every night, so I can't say if the room was quiet during hectic bar hours. There is a large separation between the two, so I think it would be quiet, I'm just not sure. The themes are a bit over the top, so if you are looking for a typical sterile hotel experience, this might be too much for you. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location is truly excellent. I had no complaints about my stay whatsoever.
“Good Choice”
Very unique hotel..each room themed. Was a little noisy being on the street.
“Amazing!!!”
Having read a review before i left for the hotel i was under the impression that the rooms did not have toilet facilities, mine, however did. The hotel was wonderful and very ncie to stay in right in the centre of Edinburgh!
“Wonderful location and staff”
While checking in at the bar downstairs was a surprise, the staff were the friendliest we encountered on our 3-week European trip. Security of the hotel was good, and the rooms were all very nice - really a boutique hotel. Location on the Royal Mile convenient to all touristy places, and the airport bus as well. A trifle noisy early in the morning with delivery truck traffic nearby, but that was minor.
“Suprise Birthday in Edinburgh”
Bought as suprise birthday present, we had a superb time at the Bank Hotel for a two night stay. Staff were very welcoming, after arriving very early to the hotel we were allowed to check in and go straight to our room straight away. Stayed in the James Watt Room which was very spacious and clean. Breakfast was fantastic - full Scottish is definately reccommended. I would certainly come back for another stay in the Bank Hotel.
“Excellent location; great service; unique rooms”
This hotel is a short walk from Waverly Station and ideally situated for accessing the many tours and attractions on High Steet. Each of the 9 rooms is uniquely decorated and named after a famous architect or inventor. Our room was up three long flights of stairs (no elevators) but our bags were immediately delivered to our door. The bar on the main floor is lively and frequented by locals; the staff is friendly and helpful.
“A fantastic hotel with great character. Definitely something different.”
First of all, the location is brilliant, right on the Royal Mile. Yes, the hotel sits above a pub, and yes, you have to go to the back of the bar to find the Reception, and yes, the stairs are in need of a new carpet and lick of paint... but these are the only "bad" points. Well, they're not actually bad points at all. They're part of the friendly charm of the place - and I speak as someone who recently stayed at the Radisson next door, an utterly soulless experience. I loved my stay at the Bank. The staff couldn't be more friendly or helpful. We stayed in the Robert Burns room, which was brilliant, with views onto the Royal Mile and the North Bridge. Great theme to the room, high ceilings, very clean and comfortable - and yes, we got the massive bathroom you see in the picture, with its huge roll-top bath and lashings of hot water. It really was something different from the dull, standardised experience of a larger chain hotel. We were right above the bar and it was saturday night, but you couldn't hear a thing in the room. I had the best nights sleep I've ever had in a hotel. This isn't 5 star luxury, but it's a great little place with tons of character. Breakfast was good too. I would definitely go back and would love to stay in one of the other themed rooms. What a great hotel! One of the best I've ever stayed in (and I've stayed in lots), and well worth the money.
“Would definitely go back”
I chose the Bank Hotel because of its location but the hotel itself really impressed me. The themed rooms are a nice break from the norm but not overwhelming - I stayed in the Robert Louis Stevenson room. I couldn't really hear the bar downstairs but the bartenders are also the hotel staff, so if you want a hotel with luxuries and wonderful service I'd stay away. It's a pretty basic place but for price, location, and quirkiness, it's a great choice.
“Fun Hotel, Great Location”
It is a piece of History on the royal mile. An old bank, now a Bar on the ground floor and room on three floors above.
