“Nice hotel, in a good location.”
The hotel is pretty much in the centre of Dunedin, on Princes Street, the main road through the centre of Dunedin and the famed Octogon area. There was no visible parking except a strictly enforced 5 minute dropping off area directly outside the lobby. On asking at the reception desk there was secure valet parking at a cost of around $20 a night although if you stayed longer like we did a rate of just $5 a night was negotiated. The room we had was a superior, and was a very good size, bed linen was regularly changed and a daily maid service was offered. Mini bar rates were reasonable and there was a reasonable choice on offer. A good bonus is 30 minutes free wireless internet everyday, which allows you to catch up on your emails and do a little research of dunedin. Further time was available and was quite reasonably priced. My only real gripe is a small one but on our 10 day stay we did have to ask for toilet paper on a number of occasions as they never left us no spares, even when we were obviously low. Nice big TV, sky movies, an iron and ironing board all help with those home luxuries. Overall, one of the better hotels i have used and one with a lot of old character. Don't miss the opportunity to use the old 80+ year old lift in original condition!! A good start to our new life here in New Zealand.
“dunedin”
Hotel was clean, restaurant was very good, only problem we had was our room was originally booked next to the party room and there was a party, so the hotel switched us to another room for one night which was inconvenient. (I was glad that the hotel notified us at check in about the party)
“Well worth it”
Lovely old building, clean and modern on the inside. Fantastic location. Very close to the octagon, information centre, restaurants, cinema. My only complaint would be that the view was of the fire escape, but the price we paid, I'm sure reflected this. Would highly recommend.
“Pleasant stay”
Nice location. Just 7 minute walk to the Octogon, which is the city center. The staff was very helpful. The hotel is in a historic building. It would need a color refresh inside: it is all grey and dull. It could be much better.
“rooms at the top”
Stayed in the rooms at the top in what was probably once staff quarters and since been done up. Glad we got them at a discount rate as they would not be worth the rack rate. No help with bags and stairs to climb, only a little oil heater, poor hot water supply one morning, only one small towel each. The bedding etc was clearly second cousin level. Would use again but only at discount rate.
“Quite ok”
A regular hotel nothing special. No free internet, though, and thats a BIG minus in todays world.
