“Like a home away from home”
The Kingsgate in Dunedin was like a home away from home. The staff were friendly and supportive, the food in the restuarant was lovely and surprisingly inexpensive and the rooms were were equipped and very comfortable. Outstanding. Would come to this Hotel again.

This Hotel was wonderful, it's very clean and has a terrific and friendly staff. I highly recomend this Hotel.

Ideal central location, helpful & friendly staff, good breakfast (on our package) and nice food at restaurant. Good value for money.

“Pleasant stay”
Service from staff was always friendly and helpful. My stay included breakfast which was very helpful. I was in Dunedin to attend a course and undertake an exam, so the location and warmth and condition of the hotel was very good. Only negative would be that the lighting in the room was inadequate due to absence of main light in the ceiling. Most lamps provided were dim and the one study lamp was connected to the only power point available, and I needed this to charge my phone and laptop. However, upon request, I was promptly supplied with an extension switchboard which was excellent. Location was quiet and no noise was heard at night.
“great location to get to the center of town”
the hotel was clean and staff members were friendly. there was very limited wifi available at the hotel so if you need wifi for an extended period of time you will need to pay for it.
“Well located”
The Hotel is well located being a short walk to down town Dunedin. It is a bit dated but is currently being refurbished. Our room was very clean and well appointed.
“Kingsgate Dunedinh review”
There was inadequate lighting in the main part of the room. There was scaffolding on the balcony, obscuring the view. When sitting having breakfast one morning, we saw vomit on the balcony right by our table - the dining room staff knew about this, but no action was taken to clean it up. Due to the fire in the main restaurant earlier in the year we could not have a meal there, but no mention was made of this on the website. The guest information folder is outdated and tatty and needs replacement.
“Think twice about staying here”
No soundproofing in room, at 6.30am could hear the neighbours talking and their tv going. Breakfast disappointing, bread still frozen, croissants not fresh and sausages dry. $4 charge to pay via credit card.
“Not impressed”
Service is fine but hotel exterior and interior is tired, run down and a little dirty. Not what you would expect from a Kingsgate and at the rack rate we paid. Recommend avoid.
