“Like a B&B with a great location”
The hotel is rated as a 3 star, which is accurate. It is an older stle hotel that feels like a B&B, because the lack of in room amenities, like a safe and refrigerator, and a very small tv. However, if this is not a concern, the hotel is a great stay for the value. The staff is prompt and meant all of my service needs, and for a constant traveler that has stayed at 4 star hotels or better, their service was that or better! The location was two blocks from city center, and there is a great cafe next door. The hotel's vault resturant had well prepared and tasty dinners! This was shocking seeing how most hotel restaurants are overpriced and tasteless, but this is a rare occasion, and the prices are comparable to around town; try the grilled chicken, great! P.S. The beds were comfortable with plenty of pillows.
“Dublin must have better accomidations”
Room lacked air conditioning and was uncomfortable. Windows had latches that rattled when windy. One area of hall floor was rotten--carpet prevented stepping through. Shower head at 8 foot height. Additional car parking charge. Location borders less than desirable area--stay on O'Connell street when walking toward town. Dublin is a large city and must have better and more reasonable priced accommodations.
“In desperate need of upkeep”
It appears that the upkeep in this hotel has been ignored for a long time. There are open electrical outlets and broken light fixtures, the linens are old and dirty, and there are cracks in the plaster. It is also very noisy as it is on a busy street and the windows do not do a good job of insulating the sounds.
“Great location, good value but rooms not as advertised”
We are a family of 4 travelling through Ireland. We were excited to discover just how close this hotel is to everything. We walked into the temple bar area for dinner easily from the hotel. It is also quiet close to the hop on hop off bus starting point. And it faces onto O'connell street, the main street in Dublin. So the location is great. The pictures of the rooms on expedia look nothing like the room you actually get. There seems to be two very different parts to the hotel, the newer section and the section we were in. We had a reasonable size room with dated bedding and furnishings. Our room overlooked a very busy street and you could hear everything, the party goers until early morning and then the heavy traffic, buses etc started from about 6am. There weren't proper curtains so the street lights lit our room up all night until the sun came streaming in instead. In saying all this, I would probably stay here again we were just put out because we were very careful and put a lot of thought into the hotel we picked. So we were a bit disappointed when it wasn't as pictured. The service was great, the hotel was clean, the location was brillant and the price was even better. So overall it was a good place to stay.
“Ideal for Women Travelling Alone”
Friendly, comfortable place. It felt like staying with city cousins. At the quieter end of CBD but short walk to O'Connell St. I arrived feeling very jet-lagged and loved that I could have a sleep, and just walk downstairs to the basement bar and restaurant, which had live Irish music and wasn't expensive. Don't know why it is called the Castle. Looks like a row of terrace houses with a rabbit warren of passageways inside. Rooms are small, but clean and comfortable. All staff are friendly and willing to help with any requests. I didn't have a car, but watched people trying to get in and out of access laneway to parking. Not for the faint hearted.
“Good Georgian Hotel, Good Location in Dublin”
The Castle Hotel is an a great example of Georgian architecture. As such, it could use a face lift in the reception areas, but the room was well maintained and clean. We had to take the lift to the 3rd floor (in the US 4th) and then go down 6 steps to get to our room - priceless and typical. Our room faced the street and was a little noisy, but not like Temple Bar area (which was still only a few blocks walk away). Unfortunately the Bell Tower of the Church across the street was being renovated - I had rather looked forward to hearing it toll hourly. The trio playing traditional Irish music in the pub on the weekends was lovely. The included breakfast was quite good with good variety and kept us going most of the day. The only real complaint is the parking. The directions to the lot are vague and the lot is not marked. Once in the lot, its like a medieval maze where you park as best you can and hope you are not blocking or being blocked. 10Euro a day is quite a bargain, but I wasn't happy to leave my rental car keys at reception although I understand its necessity. I do think that the situation is well managed considering the challenges of parking in Dublin itself. Overall we enjoyed our stay, and loved being in Dublin. When we return, the Castle Hotel will certainly be considered again.
“A little noisy”
The neighborhood is very loud at night. If you are not a heavy sleeper you will have problems falling a sleep. Our side of the hotel ran out of hot water for half a day during our stay. The hotel is older and even is not in bad conditions there is spots that are dusty in the carpet. The hotel is not horrible it offers a complentary breakfast that is very good and free wireless internet in the rooms. The main problems was the noise at night and even though the front desk is professional but they are used to so many people it makes you feel all their help is just to get you out of the way quick. If you absolutly have to stay in that hotel is not bad I just would not recomment it neither would I go back.
“Goodbreakfast and wifi”
Great value hotel, good location (a 15 - 20 minute walk to Trinity College), excellent wifi in the rooms. Hotel could do with a little TLC, but was good for the price.
“the friendliest hotel”
What can I say about "The Castle?" From the owner. to the reception staff, and all the hard working others, this is a remarkable hotel. The kitchen is good. As my wife said, "with this quality, why eat anywhere else?" They handle large numbers, but with genuine care. We'll be back. For ceretain we'll be back.
“A gem in Dublin”
The Castle Hotel is a gem. It is a privately owned Georgian stylehotel, decorated with antiques. I felt like i was staying in someone's mansion. It also has a lift, which is wonderful when you are hauling luggage around! The owner ,Tom, introduced himself to me over dinner. On Friday & Saturday nights they have Irish musicians playing in the lounge. The hotel sits just off Parnell Sq., across from the Garden of Remembrance. The location is right near the bus line and convenient to shopping areas, too. It is staffed by friendly people and they serve a full breakfast each morning. I will definitely go back!!
