“central value for money”

Central accommodation, Basic, clean, pleasant reception. Near to Crocodile place in city, many eating places along Mitchell st. Bus station close by. Thrifty car rental attached at front. Tour pick up place. Walking distance to Mall, and most things. Rooms small, shower put water all over place, but good basic value all you need if not expecting great luxury. Has a lift that goes part way and have to use stairs of fire escape. Has small pool with a few sun lounge chairs. A lot of people smoke there and on the stairs.

Area recommendations
Both Central Darwin and Botanical Gardens areas are good to stay in. Visit Mindil Beach Markets in season, Croc place in central Mitchell st., Aquascene (Doctors Gully) fish feeding and sculptures opening depends on tides etc), Visit the man made beach and wave pool and jetty Restaurants there. Laps can be swum in man made beach area, Kids have great fun (and "big" kids) in the wave pool. Tunnels to visit, Walks abound - many paths everywhere. Deck chair cinema which seems to have art house type movies and popular type movies. There are many paths and if you had a bike you could go for miles. They all seem to connect. We loved Botanic Gardens, Casino (Sun City) , Museum,Yatch club, East Point and Fanny Bay and Nightcliff areas.There are lots of Restaurants in Mitchell st. and mall and all over the streets from Cavenagh, Smith, Mitchell. "Framed" gallery on corner of Stuart Hwy and Geranium sts is a must see for art and craft enthusiasts. Lots of variety and international artists. The Museum and art gallery is also a great see...very enjoyable.

“Okay”

The location on Mitchell St. is great but the room was very small. There is no one at the front desk after 8:00 pm. You have to go to the hostel next door to get questions asked, etc. We stayed only one night when we flew into Darwin. We stayed in another hotel on Cavenagh St the night before we flew out which was $5 more but with much nicer room, full service desk, quieter AC and a much better value....

“Great location, extremely noisy, very basic comfort, poor value for money”

Check-in after 18:00 hours was at a next door facility that also served as tour booking agency and backpacker hotel. Room was absolutely bare bones with questionable cleanliness. Late night revellers prevented sleep, even with windows closed until 03:00. A room change to a different location solved that problem. Staff was very friendly. The Value Inn name is definitely a misnomer. It is at best a 2 star hotel. Traveller beware!

Area recommendations
The area is excellent, only a block away is the Esplanade with a number of hotels to choose from. The difference in Rate is definitely worth it.
