It would be easy to pick faults with the hotel but we had a large comfortable room with good facilities, great internet connection and excellent breakfast. The central location was ideal for us to walk everywhere.
The staff was very welcoming and the rooms were clean and well decorated with all facilities both clean and well stocked, the staff couldn't do enough for as we checked out go to my daughters graduation they very kindly let us leave our luggage in the store room .
We stayed here for two weeks and it was very good value for your money. Fantastic central location, nice and clean rooms. I just loved the showers and beds were super comfy :) Standard rooms was all we needed even we had big suitcases with us. We contacted the hotel before our arrival and asked for a quiet room as we know the area has a few pubs and bars and we got what we asked. Random noises from the car park didn't bother us at all and we slept well every night after we got over our jet lag :)

Extremely pleasant stay in a beautifully featured ?Edwardian house.Perfectly appointed for exploring Carlisle town centre and surrounding area. Large, clean well furnished bedroom with a fabulous ensuite facility. Breakfast was very tasty fare with all the extras. Nothing was too much trouble for our very welcoming hostess.
Townhouse is great - excellent value, clean, quiet, comfortable and large room in an accessible location. The proprietor is very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was very good too. I really recommend it.
We first stayed here in 1989 and stayed numerous times in the 1990's, in 2001, 2002 and the last time in 2004. It had lost it's edge a little for us in the transition from a privately run and owned hotel to part of a chain (Von Essen). Recent developments, a new owner, and good reviews tempted us back and we were not disappointed! It isn't the same as in the days of Francis and Brian - it never could be - but it is still a unique experience. The position on Ullswater couldn't be better (I'd go for the views alone!), the staff were helpful and friendly, the food was exceptional without following fashion. Sharrow Bay always did things it's own way and that was what made it special. The décor and furnishings suit the house and location superbly and I'm pleased to see the Hotel still dares to be different in that respect. We won't leave it as long before our next visit. It is still Simply the Best!

A great place, steeped in character. Three stories tall and narrow, its every room filled with antiques, it feels a bit like climbing into a world outside time. It's situated in a very pleasant neighbourhood on a tree-lined road of attractive older buildings, a short walk from Carlisle's equally nice, pedestrianized city center. The proprietor is friendly, helpful, and cooks one of the better English breakfasts I've had.
