“A great find!”
This is a really sweet little B&B in the centre of Carcassonne. Marlene & Michel are wonderfully charming and they couldn't have been more helpful. Marlene even took us to the Spanish festival which was happening in the town the night we stayed. The rooms are all themed on a different part of the world. We stayed in the Dakar room so the theme was African (obviously). The room was very cute and the en suite bathroom was a wee bit small but clean and comfortable. The main common area is very homely and breakfast in the garden in the morning was absolutely delightful. There wasn't a wardrobe in the room, which didn't matter to us because we were only staying one night, but it may be a problem if you're staying a bit longer. There also is no TV in the rooms. Not a bad thing in my book, but may bother some people. Location is excellent. It's about a five minute walk to the centre of town and a ten minute walk across the footbridge to the old walled city. Parking is on the street outside. Rates are very reasonable. I highly recommend this place.
“Great start to Holiday”
First night in France arriving midday and room was already and the bus driver had dropped me off at the end of the street so handy to city. As the owner spoke english as well it was very easy for me and she explained a quicker local route up to the old city and where to go. She also kindly ran me out to the airport to pick up my rental car and explained where to go.
“Will go back and recommend to others, excellent in all respects”
Excellent service, rooms individual and full of character, very welcoming, highly recommend
“A very warm welcome on a very cold day”
We arrived in Carcassonne on a very cold morning in November even though the sky was cloudless and blue. The welcome we recieved at Maison Sans Frontiere was wonderful. Our host told us to make ourselves feel at home, she was very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and gave us plenty of information on the surounding area. Her room styles were unique snd colourful. Breakfast in the conservatory was lovely, always different pastries to try on a daily basis. Our only regret was due to the time of year alot of restaurants were closed although some very good ones open. Wonderful saturday market selling fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, meat and bread. Can't describe how magical the walled city looked not only in the day but when all lit up a night. Would love to see the city in the summer.
“Wonderful, exactly what we wanted.”
Maison sans Frontiere is an unpretentious little gem. We were extremely happy and comfortable here. The location is perfect for exploring Carcasson- both old and not so old.The hospitality and helpfulness shown to us was excellent. We would heartily recommend this B&B to anyone seeking a quiet and homely base.
“Wonderful honeymoon”
The room was very clean and comfortable. The owners could not have been more helpful. When we got lost on arrival they came out to find us and guided us to the hotel. They worked out routes for us to visit all the surrounding attractions. The breakfast was more than ample with freshly baked cakes, bread and croissants with a selection of home made jams.
“The kindest owners”
We were delayed by 4 days due to volcanic ash closing UK airports. Marlene, the owner, was so kind and helpful, making phone calls, on the internet, letting us use the internet to see BBC news, trying to alleviate our worries - nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel very-much at home. Hotel is delightfully decorated, close to the river and walled Medieval city, and canal boat trips. She recommended restaurants to us and despite the delay and train strike, we really enjoyed our stay in Carcassonne.
“Little Gem Perfect Location”
We stayed in the Maison Sans Frontiere from 28/03/10 for 3 nights and were very pleased. On a arrival we were greeted warmly and given a map and recomendations of what to see and do. The owner speaks good English but no Spanish and of course French. I think there are 5 rooms overall, each with a different 'theme'; for example we were in 'Rio' - a bright, sunny room complete with cacti on the walls, a giraffe and a parrot. It was a little odd at first but our room was large with a juliette balcony. We had a separate bathroom as we were at the end of the hall (I expect this used to be the family bathroom) so it was almost like having a wing to ourselves. We asked for a double but actually had two single beds pushed together - not a problem really as they were SO comfy! Breakfast was continental and a very relaxed affair - in the conservatory at a big table with other guests - not the usual queuing for juice and cereal. There were croissants, bread and cereal with tea, coffee and orange juice. The owner's mother had made a selection of preserves which my partner assures me were delicious. The MSF is in a quiet location, near a military base. It is between the old and new town and took about 10 minutes to get to the new town and about 15-20 to the medieval. I would recommend staying here because it was relaxed, comfortable, good location and most importantly kenly priced. Carcassonne is fairly pricey as a tourist town so the saving made on the hotel made it a cheap break for us.
“Really enjoyable stay”
The hotel is ideally situated for exploring both the new and old cities, and is within easy reach of both the train station and airport bus stops. The hosts are so welcoming and ready to offer recommendations, advice and maps if needed. Our room was decorated in vibrant colours and beautifully presented. Breakfast was fantastic. I'd definitely return here if staying in Carcassonne again.
“Character B&B”
A very warm welcome to a bespoke experience. The rooms are clean and decorated in themes to add to the character. Easy reach of the old town via foot although steep in the final stages.
