“Ambience Aplenty!”
Having stayed at a dreadful place the night beforre, the Mercure was a real treat. Lovely rooms, with a pleasant view and beatiful hotel grounds. public areas were all timber flooring and dado walls, which provided a real ambience. Staff were coping with a computer breakdown which was testing theri patience howver they were still polite, friendly and efficient.
“Olim's (Mercure) Is A Winner”
This has been my third stay. Perfectly situated for me, as I come to Canberra to research at the Aust War Memorial, a few minutes walk away. I love the historic character of the hotel.
“Good price, good room and good Bistro”
We stayed one night in a newly renovated room (204). Everything was prefect, the King size bed, the great bathroom and the lack of outside noise. We ate in the bistro which had very reasonable prices for excellent food. The price was very good
“Good location; friendly staff”
The standard heritage queen rooms are nicely renovated but VERY small and not good enough for the price asked. However, when we indicated that we were unhappy staff were very obliging & upgraded us to a delightful Superior room with a nice outlook onto the central garden courtyard. Convenient location & easy access. Dining options are a bit limited nearby. Staff were efficient, responsive & friendly.
“Satisfied customer”
Great ,good location nice rooms .Down side was car parking
“Reasonable price and quality”
Olim's is located within walking distance of the war memorial and a 10 minute walk to the restaurant hub of Canberra city. The hotel has a bistro which did not look particularly appealing. Hotels in Canberra tend to be expensive for what they are (who knows why) and Olim's is a nice compromise. The hotel, about 15 minutes from the airport, is a heritage hotel (1927) and generally looks a little tired and could do with a makeover but the room was comfortable spacious and clean with a modern bathroom . The staff were friendly and accommodating. I would recommend this hotel for a short stay in Canberra.
“Great week in Canberra”
Very pleasant hotel close to town and clean comfortable room with a lovely balcony. Renovations were underway and though not noisy or disruptive they did stop the rating rising to 5 stars which I am sure it will when renovations are complete. Seriously good pillows.
“Needs a lot of work”
This is the second time i have stayed at this hotel. It must be the least friendly hotel if you were disabled - stairs everywhere and not a ramp in sight. Fortunately I am not, but lugging luggage everywhere up and down backstairs was not a pleasant experience (no help offered) The hotel seemed to be full of tour groups when i was there, and the breakfast offering was frankly dreadful - plus the dining room smelt The hotel has some history, and some potential but it is being badly run right now
“Old world charm...without the charm.”
Time for a renovation, or at the very least a lick of paint! Dark and dingy - not fun at all.
