“Great new modern hotel and helpful staff”
Initially it was hard to find the hotel as we arrived via train from Vienna. However, this would have been a lot easier if we travelled via the city’s transport system. We were initially put off by the entrance of the hotel but don’t be put off like some of the reviews has said Our first contact with the receptionist was very memorable, a welcoming and kind attitude with a smile. Things were explained clearly with good spoken English regarding breakfast, keys and the codes for entering and exiting the hotel. We booked a 3 and 2 bedroom and were very happy, it looked very modern, clean and new….what more can you ask for with the price paid. The 3 bedroom was quite small but we were only looking for a clean bed to sleep and recover for our trek around Budapest, the 2 bed room was a bit more spacious. International call cards and Budapest cards are also available at the reception who were more than happy to help. we bought a 2000ft card enough for 300 minutes which can be used via the phone provided for free as the hotel provides free local calls except mobiles. Breakfast came via vouchers to be used at a local café round the corner which was adequate (hot chocolate was pretty nice considering I don’t really like them very much). Options are limited but the available option was good enough. The hotel is situated only minutes away from the Astoria station, so transport is very easily accessible. Would definitely choose this hotel again if I were to be back in Budapest.
“Karoly Central is lovely”
The hotel was only slightly tricky to find. The rooms were lovely and clean with lots of space and clean bathroom. The service was great with very helpful staff. We loved it and would definately go back. Great location for discovering Budapest!!
“Comfort, Location and Value”
Having watched the price of accomodation rise alarmingly over the years in Budapest I was happy to see that one could still find a decent hotel in a great location for far less than many of the bigger players.. Being a new operation the Karoly aims to please.. Arriving on a COLD autum morning after an all night train ride I was cheerfully ( and greatfully) given an early check in.. The room had no view to speak of but was VERY comfortable . The vibes are relaxing and the beds lovely. As Budapest can be teribly hot in the summer it is good to see that AC is available.. It wasn't needed on my visit and the warm room wa just what I needed.. The hotel is minutes away from Andrassy Street and the Basilica where one can find such great eateries as the Cafe Kor , Tom George and Goa. Enjoy.
“Central, Clean, Amazing Value”
Excellent, excellent value for very central hotel. Large, clean room (triple)--high ceilings, spacious room. all necessary amenities. very comfortable but without youth hostel feel. building security good, as a few dodgy people around. great free breakfast at local cafe. friendly, professional staff. drawback--room next to door to reception, so a bit loud and felt like people could see in when curtains open. free coffee/tea throughout day and wifi.
“Great hotel in a Great Location”
This hotel was a wonderful surprise. Located next to the second largest synagogue in the world, this 19th century building was close to everything. The staff of young women were delightful, and they even had someone come and fix our A/C on a Sunday night. The rooms were new, good A/C (impt. in the summer) and they served a light breakfast to our room. ONE NOTE: the hotel is difficult to find. When our cab driver first took us there we felt that he had the wrong address. It is located in a strange building that has apts. and commerce and does not look like a hotel. Don't let this turn you off because we had a delightful stay.
“Fantastic location!”
Great little hotel in a fantastic central location at a reasonable price - we would highly recommend this place to others. A little tricky to find the first time - see previous posts for directions - but after that no worries!
“Fantastic Hotel!! Worth the trouble of finding it!!”
Highly recommend!! My family and I stayed for 3 nights in March 2009. The rooms are huge (by my London and NYC standards) and very clean. The bathroom is all new. We were greeted with a bottle of Hungarian wine and maps of the area. The in-room breakfast is a nice vacation treat. The staff were able to give us solid restaurant recommendations. Tons of attractions in walking distance. We did get a little lost finding it after coming off the subway but wasn't too bad and asking people on the street quickly corrected the problem. Look for the courtyard that also has Habitat for Humanity as a landmark. The building is yellow and across the street from the Synagogue.
“A perfectly located small hotel”
My trip to Budapest was a very short one, but staying at the Karoly made it extremely efficient - the hotel is in the very center and all parts of the city are easy to access, so I managed to do everything I planned and even more! The rooms are nicely furnished, spacious and very clean. The girls at the reception are very helpful. The hotel also provides free unlimited spring water and tea throughout the stay, which was a pleasant surprise to me.
“Definitely the best of small hotels in Budapest”
This was my second stay in this hotel in Budapest, and I can say that this hotel became a home away from home. The stay was really wonderful. This is a great value for the money you pay. The hotel is perfectly clean, very bright, with large rooms and up-to-date facilities. The staff is very helpful and attentive. Thanks to its location me and my wife were in the centre of all places of interest, and all the best restaurants were at a stone's throw. My wife liked it so much that she didn't want to go back.
“A Pleasant Surprise in Central Budapest”
I recently got back from a trip to Budapest. The city was beautiful and my vacation went extremely well. Surprisingly, one of the high points of my stay was the hotel Budapest Karoly Central. It is a small, almost boutique hotel located in the city center right near everything. The building that housed the hotel was from the turn of the 19th century and gave an elegant atmosphere to the whole experience. The room had high ceilings with plaster moldings along the borders, my room even had a balcony that I used. The hotel was extremely clean and furnished nicely. From what the young woman at reception told me, the hotel just opened in May so everything was really in top shape. I brought my lap top and could plug in for no charge (which I liked because the last hotel I stayed at charged me 8 Euro an hour!). The receptionists were very friendly and even made tea for me. One thing that was a pleasant surprise was that a good breakfast was delivered to my room in the morning rather than me having to go to a dining room - breakfast in bed! It was great. Anyway, the folks were really nice and I just wanted to recommend this hotel to any travelers coming to Budapest. A real gem in the center. Thanks guys.
