“Modern and classic hotel in Clifton Village”

Rodney Hotel has a nice historical character, starting with its surroundings in the elegant neighborhood of Clifton Village. Very nice and updated dining room and bar, spacious garden, and completely modern (though small) rooms. Walking upstairs might be seen as a barrier for some who are not used to historic English hotels, but the staff carried my bags up for me which was appreciated (and not usually done in other hotels). Bed was comfortable, good desk for working, everything working well. Very good value for the price.

Area recommendations
Clifton Village is probably the nicest part of Bristol, well-maintained traditional architecture, including proximity to the university and historic buildings. Nice trendy small shopping area, not far from Queen Street and ultimately downtown. On other side is the suspension bridge, the Downs and Zoo. A nice area for those willing to walk, and for runners it's great.
When to go
Off-season is, in my opinion, still quite pleasant. Temperature in February was close to 5 degrees (even in an unusually cold and snowy year for England), not too much rain. I have found that even in summer you can find chilly temperatures and gray skies in England so winter is Ok by comparison. Lots of green year-round, numerous flowers. Not to say that spring/summer/fall aren't worth it, when the vegetation is that much more beautiful and usually great temperature, never too hot.
