“Just right”

“Great value for the budget conscious traveler!”

Considering this was the least expensive hotel in the area listed on Expedia, I was pleasantly surprised with the facility. The room was smaller than what I'm used to in the States, but it was plenty large enough for one person. There was a desk that worked out well for my laptop, a 23" lcd tv, shower/tub combo, and even a complimentary fruit bowl. If I had to come up with a complaint, there was no in-room safe for my laptop and documents, and the fridge was just a mini bar which isn't very helpful to a long stay guest like I was. I didn't try the in house restaurant but less than a block away there were plenty of sandwich shops and eateries. Within a ten minute walk there were even a couple of grocery stores. The Bristol City Museum which was free admission was only about a four minute walk. The Cabot Circus/Bristol Mall are a mile from the hotel. Taxi ride with Checker Car was under £30 from Bristol Airport to hotel doorstep. I never felt uncomfortable in the area around the hotel, fairly well kept area. I WOULD recommend this hotel, especially to the budget conscious.

Getting there

There is a Checker Car office just outside the Bristol Airport baggage claim. Once you go through the doors, turn left and follow the signs. Talk to a person at the desk, they'll ask for your destination and give you the cost and your cab number. I like that idea because you aren't jerked around by a taxi driver that takes "the long way" to where you're going. The rate is already set. The two drivers I had were very polite and professional.

Getting around

I was on foot nearly the whole time I was there. Being right near downtown meant that there were buses everywhere, but I didn't ride on any. Should you need a train, Bristol Temple Meeds station isn't too far away, maybe two miles. Clifton Down station was about mile away from the hotel.

Shopping

Cabot Circus/Bristol Mall are roughly one mile from the hotel. VERY large store selection. Also, many smaller shops line the road just a block from the hotel door.

Dining

The menu for the on-site restaurant didn't look too bad but I didn't eat there. Less than a block away there were plenty of sandwich shops and smaller eateries.

Family-friendly activities

Five minute walk to the Bristol City Museum, free admission and enough in there to see that it will take several hours to get through. S.S. Great Britain is a fifteen minute walk to City Centre and across the floating harbor, worth the cost to me. Ten minute walk to the aquarium, they do have a 3-d Imax theater and the showings are included with price of admission.

“"Home away from home"”

This hotel is a wonderful place to stay. Reception and restaurant staff are exceedingly friendly and helpful, the whole hotel is friendly, well maintained and - including location - very pretty. Walking distance to Clifton Village with its shops and restaurants; a short taxi ride to Temple Meads Station. Breakfast is great! Only one downside: the mattress in my room had seen better days, and wasn't all that comfortable to lie on. However, when I mentioned this in the morning, reception told me that replacements are on their way...

Area recommendations

Clifton Villages - great restaurants, shops, and the famous suspension bridge.
