“Exactly what we had hoped”

Rydges Southbank is a superbly located hotel for a night at QPAC - valet parking for the car (at $30 a night) compared to $15 for a park underneath QPAC doesn't seem too bad, and the staff are extremely friendly. The only "con" I can think of is the very small bathroom, but who cares for one night. It's clean, comfortable and with the membership of Rydges club you get 20% of food purchases from the cafe - yippee.

Area recommendations
Southbank is terrific for visits to QPAC and other venues in the cultural precinct.

“Would go back...”

Having booked to attend the yearly Textile Conference and given the bad weather- wanted a Hotel close by. Th Rydges Southbank hotel was adjacent to the Brisbane Convention Centre and was a comfortable hotel. The room was spotless, bed comfy with extra blankets provided. The Buffet breakfast however, - th ehot breakfast was never really hot in the 3 mornings I was there.. and not a lot of variety.S

“Great location”

The Rydges South Bank is situated in a great location with many cafe's and eating places nearby. It is only a short walk to the South Brisbane train station where you can get a Airtrain to and from both the domestic and international airports. It is also the best location for attending conferences at the nearby Convention Centre and is close to the cultural area of Brisbane. The only downside to our stay was that our room did not have a balcony or a window that would open as we faced the back of the hotel. However we did get a free firework display with the best view of it from our room on two nights of our stayed there (bonus). Over the service, staff and food there was good and they also sell Airtrain tickets at the reception desk at a reduced rate $13.50 instead of $15.00 as at the station. However the internet costs could be cheaper than the $5.00 for a 1/2 hour.

Area recommendations
The South Bank is the best area of Brisbane to be in for travellers. Close to eating places, parks, the Brisbane River and the cultural district. The CityCat ferry service is close by and is an easy and cheap to way to see Brisbane by day and night. Remember to buy a Go Card at a newsagent which is similar to the London Oyster Card but a lot cheaper. There are great walking paths along the river for those that want to exercise and a city beach for those who like sand and water.

“Average experience”

There are many good mid- level hotels in Brisbane. The Rydges was not anything particular or remarkable, good or bad.

“Very good place and very convenient to the city.”

This hotel was very convenient to the places my wife and I had to go for brief business ventures. It is in the heart of the southbank area of Brisbane, which has very nice restaurants and night life. A new convention center is going up next door, which temporarily closes one sidewalk. But I am sure its completion will make this an even better and more convenient place to stay.

Area recommendations
This neighborhood was in the downtown area, near the Queen Street mall which has many shopping and eating opportunities. This is really the heart of Brisbane and all of these places were within easy walking distance. The transportation system for this city makes it easy to use public transport to get to and from the airport at about half the price of a cab.
Getting around
Use the train to go to and from the airport. It is fast convenient and about half the cost of a cab.

“Good location, bathroom badly needs refurbishment”

The grouting in the bathroom was stained and mouldy and the tiles were marked from previous tap fittings. Not the end of the world but a disappointment in a 4 star hotel! The location was central and convenient however because of that we didn't use the balcony due to the noise of the air-con plant of the Queensland Conservatorium, which we overlooked. Not a fault of the hotel, just the downside of being in such a convenient and central location.

Area recommendations
Mount Cout-tha Botanic Gardens and Lookout, South Bank Park, Roma Street Gardens, City Botanical Gardens. Trip to the rainforest was fantastic
