“Great choice for us”
Husband, myself, and teen son on trip to Switzerland. Not too many choices for 3 person room. This is a very reasonably priced business hotel. The room was small but clean. The staff was lovely. It is not really a walkable distance to the old town but for a small fee, you can take the tram from the train station and be there in 5 mins. The trams run every 3 minutes. And the tram lets out right across the street from the hotel. It was unseasonably hot when we were there so airconditioning was quite a welcome change from the other places (more pensions) where we stayed, though the other places were more charming. This was the most reasonably priced of all the places we stayed and I would recommend it for what it is-a clean, reasonably priced business hotel with good service.
“Great stay”
Although it doesn't look like much from the outside, this hotel had great modern, clean rooms, with a convenient tram stop across the street that ran about every 5 minutes. The bathroom was ultra modern, with a pedestal sink. Great shower. Would definately stay here again. Reception staff could have been a little more familiar with expedia, but accepted our explanation that room was pre-paid. They also did not cash AMEX traveler's checks.
“July stay”
The staff at this hotel have obviously seen the previous feedback regarding attitude and being helpful. We were checked in without any problems understanding it was via Expedia, and were provided with info and transport directions. When there was no space in the carpark, one of the staff members moved her car so we could park. Rooms were clean, comfortable and had added features such as a safe and air con.
“Very good hotel...”
Good hotel...good location (near from the city center, by car)... good price. I recommend.
“Nice Place”
This hotel is quite different in decor and design but well worth the money. The restaurant is expensive but the food is out of this world! Internet charges are way too high but most things in Bern are very expensive.
“Nice hotel for the price.”
This hotel met our needs. It would be good to have a better information as to how to get there from the train station. They could also have better information about how to get around the city.
“Good Pick”
The hotel is in a quiet area a very short ride via street car to the center of Bern. The rooms were very modern with a bit of wear. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. A good pick if you don't want to be in the middle of the city.
“A little out of the way, but nice”
We started our honeymoon in Switzerland at this hotel. The room was very nice, but a little small - at least for moving around our two suitcases. There are two restaurants - a Japanase teppan-style and a nice Interntional restaurant. Food and service at both were great and everyone spoke English. Food was a bit expensive - about 20-30% more than in equivalent restaurants within the city proper. Steamroom and sauna downstairs are great, but you have to go to the front desk to get towels and robes, which is a bit inconvenient. In case you're not sure, the steamroom/sauna are German-style - so it's co-ed and it's naked. For the most part, the hotel is in a quiet area, but adjacent to a farm. A farm in Switzerland means cows, and cows mean cow bells. So, you might hear cowbells all day and all night, but it's easy to get used to. Internet access is not included in the room rate, but the hotel is in a wi-fi hotspot. Connectivity costs 10-20 CHF depending on how long you're planning to be online. Access to the downtown area is easy. 15-20 minute walk or a 5 minute, 2CHF tram ride. The tram line (#9) is right outside the hotel and takes you right to the central train station.
“No complaints”
I stayed at the Ambassador for four nights in July and had a good experience there. I was in Bern for the Gurten music festival, so the hotel was an ideal location. I could reach the concert venue by walking or taking the tram a few blocks. It was also easy to hop the tram from the hotel and get into the city center in 10 minutes or less. The hotel is not anything spectacular, but it was clean and quiet. The parking garage was small, but free. I would stay there again.
“Great food in well-located friendly hotel”
We were amazed at the quality of the food in the Pavillion restaurant - fine dining with excellent service. The room was on the small side, but cleverly furnished in a contemporary / Japanese style which meant it didn't feel cramped. Probably best suited as a business hotel, it was also fine for leisure as there is a tram stop right outside and it's around 10 minutes to the centre of Bern. Swimming pool was a little basic but much enjoyed by my family.
