“Perfect location”
Perfect central location, clean and safe with friendly helpful staff. Great value.
“Best Location”
If you are there to sight see, and not sit on the beach, this four star, very comfortable, hotel has the BEST location for sight seeing, in the same plaza as the cathedral in the gothic area. Spend the extra for cathedral view.
“Hotel Colon -convenient location, slose to everything, excellent staff”
My husband and I staye d20th-22 November 2011. We came from our cruise ship E7 fare, and were able to walk to the airport bus at Place Catalanya. The hop on hop off bus was 50 metres away, the Gothic district and La Rambla about 1 minute's walk.Staff were very pleasant and efficient and the room spacious and quiet with double glazing and a balcony overlooking the cathedral. We did not hear a sound at nights. Surrounding us were many places we could get meals and neaby market swith every type of food imaginable. Th edecor was pleasant but overall uninspiring and we really missed the absent tea and coffee making facilities which we have come to expect in a 4 star hotel. I would recommend it.
“Nice Hotel, Great Location”
Not having been to Barcelona before, we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the Hotel Colon. The bed was not the most comfortable, but the room was clean and the bathroom was large and well-appointed. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Best of all, the location was perfect -- across the square from the Cathedral of Santa Eulalia and very close to La Rambla. I'd stay at this hotel again.
“Ringside seat”
The best thing about the Hotel Colon is its location, right in the plaza of Barcelona's cathedral, and a stone's throw from the old city. The outdoor cafe provides a ringside seat for the great deal of activity that occurs there, including a Thursday antiques market. The public rooms are attractive. We did not sample the food and avoided the breakfast, which has a rather large charge and was not included in the room rate. No problem because there are several bars in the plaza where you can get a decent breakfast. The best and most expensive rooms are those that face the plaza. We had a room facing the back, which should have had the advantage of quiet but in fact was noisy from the sound of generators in the alley and visually noisy from the fluorescent lights on the landings in the building opposite. This might not be a problem if you like sleeping with closed windows and drawn shades that let in no light. When we asked for another room in our price category we were accommodated. The light and sound problems improved, but the room, on a lower floor, had no carpeting and the double bed was two beds pushed together without a spacer to unite them. Less than satisfactory for a couple. Still, we loved the location. If I went again I would splurge for a front room; the plaza is quiet at night so street noise would not be a problem.
“Wonderful, comfortable hotel in an amazing location”
Great, helpful staff and an amazing location. We just happened to be there when the Mercat de Mercats was going on. Very convenient for a quick bite to eat and/or drink. Close to many metro stops and shopping locations. All but one of the staff members was helpful. They spoke both English and Spanish very well. Cannot stress how comfortable and convenient my stay was with my entire family. Would go back again in a heartbeat.
“Barcelona's most perfect hotel”
Friendly, perfect location, not luxurious, Easy to get taxi, bus, metro. Walking distance to everything. If budget is a little tighter, the 'younger brother hotel' is Regencia Colon, located in the building behind. It is just as great. Same personnel. Just not in front of Cathedral.
“excellent property”
Great location and very helpful staff. Lots to do in the neighborhood. Get a room facing the square above the third floor.
“Excellent value”
Great location to explore Barcelona. We paid extra for the catherdral view which added to the experience. Requirement to leave the room key at reception is a nuisance (waiting while other guests are being served)
“a great location”
very central, 2 minute walk from Sol station, from the airport its easy to take metro. same thing i did when i went back to the airport. cost 2.50 euro each.

Ciutat Vella, Barcelona, Spain: Barcelona's Old Town, the Ciutat Vella takes in the Barri Gòtic and the world-famous promenade of Las Ramblas. The former is the city's medieval core, a maze of atmospheric alleyways clustered around the splendid Gothic Cathedral. Quirky specialist shops and characterful bars and eateries abound. Don't miss the Museu Picasso and the Museu d'Història de la Ciutat, as much for their palatial settings as their content.
