“Between rice fields, a little out of Ubud, but with own sceduled bus service”
Wonderful place to be. Lots of space and app. in nice gardens. Run by a foundation for young children. Not professional, but very nice and helpful. Swimming pool and massage was wonderful. Restaurant only good for breakfast.
“Not my cup of tea...”
Travelling as a family with 2 kids, we were unaware this hotel is actually a boarding school for Bali kids who are learning the hotel trade. The kids are high school aged and during the day attend school in the front of the hotel. They also man the front desk, are the security at night, massage therapists, cooks, and everything else that makes a hotel operate. The kids were fantastic, could not fault them. However the hotel itself was run down and not very well maintained. The pool was dirty with missing tiles and in a general state of disrepair. The bedrooms were OK but there were no safes in the rooms. The bathrooms were mouldy though functional and the tubs old. The mosi nets over the beds could have done with a good wash. The breakfasts were better missed as we ordered pancakes and they were green in colour and raw in the middle. Next day tried the fruit salad, not as fresh as it should have been and the omletes were an odd combination of ingrediants but at least edible. They run a shuttle,on a time table into the main centre of Ubud, this is Ok but a little restricting so we hired motor bikes one day as well and this allowed us much more freedom. The hotel is located a fair distance from the centre of Ubud thus creating a reliance on transport of some kind. The school also asks for volunteers to teach the kids while you are there maybe this should be advertised a bit better. Our stay was alright for 2 days but I wouldn't have wanted to stay here any longer.
“A unique hotel experience”
We stumbled across Suly Resort quite by accident, but are really glad we stayed. The hotel is a 5 minute drive out of town, which we preferred as Ubud centre is pretty noisy. The resort itself is a little dated, as its rather extravagent design hasnt been maintained through the years. However, the rooms were very clean, and the service was excellent. The newly opened organic restaurant that serves 3 meals a day is fantastic, amazing food and inexpensive. The resort is home to many underpriveleged 16-18 yr olds who get the opportunity to live-in, attend school, and also gain work-based training in hospitality to set them up for their future. We volunteered to teach an English class one morning which was great fun for us as much as the students. We also attended the free yoga class each morning with qualified instructors from round the world. The resort offers creative classes, such as cooking, painting and wood carving. there is also a health spa which we didnt have time to check out! In all, we really enjoyed our experience and would have loved to stay for another week or so to get more involved in the resort's activities, and to work our way through the menu!!
“I'm not appreciate this hotel.”
noisy from the hotel renovation and construction.
“Great Value, Very Happy with our stay.”
Not the newest hotel or 5-star glitzy, but a great value for the money. Fantastic service by the staff, nice scenery and nice, spacious rooms. The bathrooms and towels were a bit 'spartan' but all-in-all we were very happy we booked here and enjoyed our stay.
“Give as much as you receive”
Suly Resort and Spa is no Hilton. If you're wanting polished floors, bell boys in funny little hats, and a European breakfast don't stay here. But, if you want really cheap accommodation, friendly smiles and a beautiful relaxing environment, read on. As most of the comments inform readers, Suly is a hospitality school. The entire place is staffed by young adults from 14 to 25. The rooms are an incredible Balinese styled experience. Huge wooden furnishings, batik prints and marble floors welcome guests to their large and spacious rooms. The bathrooms are average and a little rustic in that you don't have strong water pressure, and there was some mould spotting over the ratan woven roof. You have to bear in mind, when you realise that you only got one towel when they cleaned your room, that this is a school, they're learning on the job. But for my fiancee and i it was great. Its a clean roof over your head, hot water and a European style toilet, air conditioning and a massive king size bed. The kids are great and try their hardest to please you. The grounds are immaculate. The restaurant is a bit limited and you get the occasional mix up in your order, but the food is well cooked if not well presented. Patience is the key to staying at Suly. Kick back, chat to the kids, and be there to help them as much as they help you, and you'll have a wonderful experience.
“Spitiual and ethical place to stay.”
Further out of Ubud than I thought, but if you are a bit spiritual, then what a lovely place - can do yoga in the morning with the children at the school attached, chanting on Sundays, and be part of something that is more than a hotel. Beautiful people, and a wonderful stay.
“For this price, excellent hotel”
extremely high cost performance. Free shuttle to Ubud palace. Good breakfast. peaceful and beautiful surrouding environment. clean and spacious room, friendly and helpful stuff. For this price, very good hotel.
“The place is OK”
A very friendly place in a beautiful location, but a bit far from Ubud center. The room was large and clean, but a bit in need of maintenance. The students were absolutely lovely and the place is good value for money.
“It's a coin toss”
Beautiful setting, rooms are entered after winding through lovely gardens with statues of Hindu Gods. Rooms pretty fancy, nice hand carved furniture, and marble floors, but the beds were too hard. The hotel uses teenage kids from local villages in order to teach them a trade and give them a chance to earn some money. A very humanitarian thing to do but it leads to some amateurish service; not checking the laundry basket for days, until we reminded them to, forgetting to restock the complimentary things like bottled water and coffee, even helping themselves to our chocolates! The resturant was not much better. If you were going to eat there in the evening you had to order two hours in advance. The breakfast was included but the menu was so limited that you could could try everything they have in just two mornings. After that it got so boring that we would pay for breakfast elsewhere.
