I was expecting a lot less. But the minute we came around the corner and saw the hotel, we were pleasantly surprised. It was on an oasis in urban Rome. The guy at the counter was happily explaining hiw to get around Rome to a new guest. We got to the room and the sheets were clean like they were pressed. Impressive that the room fit a king and a twin size bed with room to spare! The place is a 15 minute walk from the Vatican but the bus stop is a 5 minute walk away. Enjoy the scenery; be a local and blend in. Get a 4-day or weekly metro pass. If you can manage it, get a car. We brought our 10-year old and we never got a complaint about the walk. We would stay here again!

"Resort meets city"
This hotel had great staff and amenities. While on a large and beautiful property outside the city, there were frequent buses for 1,50 Euro pp to go into city. The pool and outdoor areas are beautiful and rooms were good size.

The Hotel was wonderful! A bit away from most of Rome's main attractions but easily accessible by the Metro. Staff was so professional. Hotel set back from the road so you are guaranteed a good night's sleep!

"Ideal to explore Rome"
I admit to being nervous about booking this hotel. Whilst the majority of reviews are good some are not. I was impressed with the managers robust rebuttal of the negative feedback. I am glad I did this hotel is excellent in every respect. Some say the hotel is remote from Rome - well we used public transport and from room to sights was less than 30minutes and you stay in a top hotel in grounds and amenities not found in the city. Some say the hotel is dated. On the contrary, it has a nice blend of modern and traditional which is lovely. The leisure facilities are excellent. Some say it is pricey and you get charged different tariffs. Yes the price of drinks is more expensive in the bar but you have nimbles and pianist and the pool bar whilst cheaper is served in plastic cups for safety. The restaurant serves a high standard of food at prices on a par for Rome or London. All staff are friendly and helpful. One evening we tried a restaurant 10 minute walk from turning right out the front of the hotel on the recommendation of the bar man which was brilliant. To be honest the in-house was so good in pleasant surroundings we didn't venture out for dinner. The rooms are well appointed and serviced to a high standard. This is a great hotel to have a relaxed base to visit Rome. You get so much more than a hectic city based hotel. The manager is right to rebut the critics. I fully recommend this hotel.

"Cardinal Hotel St Peter is a Keeper"
The desk manager is welcoming. I was shown to my room readily, the room being and well laid out. For a woman travelling alone, I heartily recommend this hotel. The lobby and all common areas are comfortable, clean, and above all present as safe. The room service manager also keeps in mind the comfort of her guests. She brought me flowers after my first day. The neighborhood of the hotel is quite appealing as well. I book a second stay at the Cardinal Hotel St Peter, and toward the end of the stay, my mother will be joining me. I only recommend hotels of high caliber (either a well deserving 3* or higher) as a place for my mother, a retired educator, to enjoy. I am very much looking forward to our joint stay at the 4* rated Hotel Cardinal St Peter.

"Definitely recommended!"
The rooms are very clean, the staff are extremely helpful and the breakfast is complimentary and is very good (large spread). The only con is it's a bit far from the town center. I couldn't walk to any place - which I normally do. But they give you free shuttles (you have to pre-book) to the nearest railway station and to Vatican museums. I had a difficult time going to the hotel from the airport. Please do your homework before you land so you won't be stranded like I was. The hotel gives clear directions - stick to those.

"Disability travelling"
I travelled with a disabled father, the access to the site was up a steep hill, once up it was ok we could get the wheelchair everywhere, to overcome this the staff were very helpful and took dad up on a golf type buggie.

    Pocket Guide: Rome Aurelio Hotels

Encompassing in its folds part of the area next to the Vatican, the Aurelio neighborhood is known for being a residential haven away from the hustle and bustle of central Rome while still being connected to the heart of the city. The area's traditional restaurants, local shops, and neighborhood cafés bordering the piazzas make it the perfect place for an evening stroll.
