“True 4-Star experience at awesome hotel”

Other than a problem I had with the concierge team, the hotel itself was FANTASTIC! They kindly let me check in very early as I had just arrived off a 13-hour flight. Beautiful room! High quality products in room with a comfy bed and cool modern bathroom. Outstanding value through Expedia. Substantially better than the Crowne and Mercure hotels in Auckland.

Getting there

Take a super shuttle from the airport. Taxis are overpriced and not much faster.

“Great Hotel For Business In Auckland”

The location is great, rooms are clean and more than adequate and the rate was excellent for inner city Auckland ... only downside is the $30/day internet access ... but that's certainly not unusual in Australia or New Zealand.

“Reasonable hotel in CBD”

Booked this hotel in hurry due to unexpected flight delay. Price was good and I reckon it really worths it. Although rooms are not particularly fancy, they are acceptable for short stay, clean and quiet. Short stroll to the harbour (~5 mins) where you can find a bunch of nice restaraunts.

Stay away from Tonys Lord Nelson Steakhouse. We were recommended this place by the hotel concierge and it was the biggest mistake ever. One of the places in urgent need of Gordon Ramsey: too greasy steaks with not too fresh vegetanles.

“Convenient, comfortable hotel in Auckland CBD”

The hotel itself is very well decorated, clean and well maintained. The staff were not very helpful at check-in, and tried to give me a tiny room on the second floor (see above). I complained with the manager, and she moved me to a much better room. Room service was excellent (the food and service were both great). Check out was also very fast, and they were helpful getting me an airport shuttle. Overall, a great hotel for the price.

“Not Impressed”

Hotel staff are not trained properly. We asked for recommendations of restaurants to visit / places to see - we were told to walk around and find something. No recommendations. When it came time to book a taxi cab - after 4 times they still got the time wrong Food at the Hotel restaurant is not up to scratch Very poor room service with items not being very clean

The location was very good but hotel is not on main street, so it can be a bit unnerving walking the back street at night to get to the hotel.

“Easy In-and-Out in Auckland!”

We were just staying one night and this hotel was just perfect. It was convenient to walk to restaurants and attractions, especially the ferry port and train station! Simple, clean and friendly!

Area recommendations

We enjoyed walking down to the Ferry Buildling and taking the 10 minute ride to Devonport for lunch and walking around.

“I might reconsider staying somewhere else.”

While the hotel was comfortable, the neighborhood was not what I expected. On the walk back to the hotel from Waitemata Harbor I thought the neighborhoods were rather run down, however, we felt safe. The staff at the hotel were very helpful. We did experience a scare of sorts - the fire alarm went off and as a result the fire department came to the hotel. Thankfully, it was a false alarm.

I would recommend hotels closer to Waitemata Harbor.

“Great Stay in Auckland, NZ”

The Rydges was VERY satisfactory. After a short bad time with the handicapped shower, a change of rooms, and a faulty toilet, everything went well for the rest of the time. The staff was very helpful and attentive as well as being very cheerful. The rooms were fine but the main attraction was the central location of the hotel. All in all it served us well for our visit.

“Nice Location, nice rooms”

The location of Rydges is very convenient, just a block from the Sky Tower and Victoria Street, which has a lot of restaurants that are open until late. Queen Street shopping is also just two blocks away and the hotel is only a 10 minute walk from the harbor. We had a room in the upper floors and a view to the harbor. The view was amazing and the room nicely decorated, but a bit on the small side. The bathroom was ok, a bit chilly in the winter. The shower was a bit dated, which was a funny contrast to the modern vanity and sink in the bathroom. Overall we were satisfied with the room and our stay.

Getting there

The Super Shuttle from the airport is a good deal and convenient if you have two persons or more.

Dining

Try Raviz Indian Cuisine on Hobson Street. Great food!
