“Our new #1 Choice for Athens Hotels!”
Staying at this hotel was one of the best decisions we made during our 2 1/2 week trip to Europe. After reading the negative reviews about the neighborhood, we were reluctant to book a room at the Melia Athens. I'm glad we decided to give it a try! I was looking for a hotel near the meeting place where we caught the shuttle/bus for the ferry to Skopelos Island (Where much of the movie, "Mamma Mia" was filmed). The Melia Athens hotel is literally right around the corner from the meeting place for the shuttle/bus. We got up early and walked around the corner. The hotel is very nicely furnished with very comfortable beds, Bathroom was very nice and luxurious, in room safe, rooms are typical for what you would find in Europe (Small by American standards). You can't beat the value for a room at this hotel. We originally booked our room for two nights, and planned on checking into a one of the large American hotels in Athens upon our return from Skopelos. But we cancelled that reservation and rebooked a room at the Melia Athens because we enjoyed it so much! I can't say enough nice things about this hotel and will certainly recommend it to anybody touring Athens, as the proximity to the Metro Station makes it super easy to get around and even to/from the airport quite inexpensively. Can't wait to go back again!!
“Athens' best.”
at first they couldn't find our reservation. they offered us soft drinks while waiting. Later on for waiting us like 10 minutes, the upgrade our room to the executive suite and the personnel told us they were very sorry for the delay. Everything was great overall, and next time i'm gonna definetely make reservation to Melia.
“Melia Athens”
We were staying during the protests just around the corner, but inside the Hotel it was business as usual. Clean, comfortable with great service. If there is a downside, it would be having to pay for internet access. With so many places offering it for free we felt it was a bit petty to charge so much for room access. They wanted more for 12 hours of service than I pay for a month at home.
“Incredible Views from Roof!”
Fantastic hotel, amazing views from the rooftop. Amazing rooftop swimming pool and views to acropolis. After Our month long journey through europe this was our second last destination and it felt wonderful finally being somewhere that felt like what we are accustomed to in canada. Loved it.
“Will return”
Alot of reviews say this hotel is in a dodgy part of town. And as a Police Officer l tend to agree. l had my16 r old daughter with me and would not travel out at night. For this reason we ate at the hotel on the roof top restaurant. The staff at Melia were really excellent and so helpful. The rooms were luxurious. The roof top restaurant was delightful. The staff there were lovely and also surprised when two girls(m daughter and myself) order everything off the menu and finished most of it. The drinks on the roof top were very expensive, but worth it for the views and relaxed setting. l would go back to Athens mainly if only to stay in this hotel again. Thank you Melia..
“Great Hotel”
Residence Georgio was a good base from which to explore Athens and the surrounding towns and islands. The staff were incredibly helpful and efficient, even at 3.00 am on our departure morning. We managed to book tours and a cruise with ease from the Reception, and all of our needs were tended to without delay. Furthermore the 2 rooms we stayed in were ideal, although the twin room was much smaller and only viewed the inner, bare courtyard. In Contrast the Deluxe room was spacious and had a decent view of the road below. The rooftop pool and Captain's Bar were a real delight, with a view of the Acropolis and Lykavittos Hill but 6.00pm is too early for the pool to close. Overall the Hotel was outstanding and i would be happy to visit again.
“Great hotel for the price”
Most travellers say that this hotel is in a pretty bad location but I stayed here for 5 days and I had no probems with this hotel at all. In fact, I felt safer as I found a lot more cops patrolling this area. Unfortunately, most of the surrounding neighborhoods in Athens aren't exactly what you'd call prime locations with the exception of the Plaka. The room was clean and the facilities were in great condition and it is located about 5 mins away from Syntagma Square.
“Middle of Athens”
The hotel is great and in a central location (near Omonia square for subway). The neighborhood is a bit rough, but there's really no problem during the day. The roof top pool is a must (we where there in July) and it has a nice view of the acropolis. A/C with in room control was very good. The only drawback of the hotel is that the pool closes at 18:00 and the sauna closes at 21:00.
“Beautiful hotel in a great location”
Residence Georgio, although by Omonia Square, was a very well appointed hotel with a friendly and attentive staff. The front desk crew were very helpful with restaurant reservations, car rentals, and other helpful advice. The rooms were spacious (for Athens) and the beds were unexpectedly VERY comfortable.
“Couldn't ask for more”
at this price anyway. The room was comfortable, breakfast plentiful and varied, the rooftop pool and bar area great (though not huge) and with views of the acropolis. The hotel itself is a short walk from the major areas that you'll probably want to visit. Nothing of particular interest on the doorstep, but we found that to be a good thing as the area was generally quiet as a result. We took a long time deciding over which hotel to stay in and are very pleased that we chose Residence Georgio.
