“Best Beds Ever!”
The NH hotels are by far the best for service and comfort. Our room had a beautiful view...we had an extremely comfortable bed. There is a cafe built right into the hotel, so no need to go looking for that latte in the morning.
“Great hotel in excellent location”
First impressions of the hotel from outside were great and it certainly didn't disappoint once inside. The staff were very friendly and helpful, their English was excellent. We had booked a canal view room - which was on the 4th floor, and due to being on the corner of the building we had excellent views of both the canal and the city. The room was large, and of a good standard - in places the decor looked a bit 'tired' but the bathroom was of excellent standard. Location was perfect - it was peaceful, with very little traffic noise, was only 5 minutes walk from Rembrandt Square - which is lively, and again only about 5 -10 minutes walk from the main streets of bars and shops (Dam Square and Red Light area. Opposite the hotel were some quaint cafes and small bars - Cafe de Gaeper which was very friendly and sold good food at a good price. Loved the hotel overall and would definitely return.
“Looking Forward to Next Visit”
Recently made my second trip to the Dam and could not have been happier. I chose the Doelen after seeing it from across the canal back in 04. Not only is it beautiful but its service is outstanding. The staff was friendly, proffessional and responsive to my every need from the moment I arrived till the airport shuttle (that they arranged for me) pick up. The room was clean and surprissingly very quiet (even as the housekeeping staff went about there work), fine room amenities, and the bed is extremely comfortable. As others have reported the location is in a lovely area in the city with many resturants and entertainment options. One thing I must report is how addicting the hotel's coffee shop is. Waking up each day and enjoying a great tasting capuccino while looking out onto the canal is one of my fondest memories.
“Nice Central Hotel”
This was the second time we stayed at the Doelon. We love the central location, it makes the walking around town a breeze. The rooms are very comfortable (very soft beds)and the hotel itself is beautiful. we would recommend this hotel and we will stay there again ourselves.
“Secluded Gem in the Heart Of Amsterdam!”
My boyfriend and I stayed at the lovely hotel during the week of Christmas and New Years of 2005. It was one of the best hotels that we have stayed in. Atmosphere was quiet, staff knowledgable and responsive, and views from the charming room, overlooking the canal were great! Close to all attractions. Yes, I would love to stay at NH Doelen again, and actually are looking at other NH Hotels for the future stays!
“Good hotel”
Located within walking distance of Dam Square (5-10 minutes) Within 1 block of tram line. Helpful & courteous front desk staff, clean comfortable rooms. Offers shuttle service to airport from hotel 11 euro ea. Would stay there again.
“Excellent location, Beautiful Hotel”
This is what you expect from a hotel, whether you are getting a deal through expedia or not. Beautiful on the inside and out. Excellent location, close to everything. Dining room is charming overlooking a canal, though you can eat cheaper elsewhere, sometimes you don't want to bother searching for somewhere to eat, so it's worth it for the convenience. Staff are friendly, helpful and courteous, even looking up things for us on their computer to help us find something. Couldn't recommend this hotel more.
“Great Central Location”
This was our third stay at this hotel, we love the central location, not to far of a walk in any direction. My only suggestion would be to ask for a higher floor as the street noise can be a little loud. We would stay here again.
“Great location”
The Doelen was located in the center of town, very conveneient for accessing all of the city. Having never been to Amsterdam before, I was worried about the location before arriving. We stayed for 4 nights and could walk to all attractions and sights within 10-15 minutes. The room was clean, full of all the amenities needed and had a fantastic view of the Amstel river. The staff was kind, welcoming and helpful. I would definitely stay at this hotel again and would suggest it to other travelers as well.
“Fabulous!”
Very clean, well-kept, and comfortable! Staff were very friendly. We thought the location was the best in Amsterdam, because it was central to so many attractions! Beautiful view from our room. And the hotel itself is so pretty that we noticed many people were taking pictures of it.

Some of these are now museums, most notably the eccentric Kattenkabinet. The Amstel is a more down-to-earth waterway, lined with houseboats and famous for its classic muchphotographed Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge).
