“Adequate, but expensive”
Hotels in Amsterdam are known to be expensive (the entire city is). This isn't really a hotel however - it's more of a Youth Hostel. We booked an ensuite double room. We got a room with three bunk beds, a shower cubicle, and a toilet shared with five other rooms. The communal areas of the hotel weren't particularly clean, but our room was (although extremely tatty). Not only was it clean, when we checked it and first got to the room, we choked on the smell of bleach, so I'm guessing it was also germ free.... The bannister falling off the wall on the steep, narrow stairwells wasn't great, nor the randomly abandoned wardrobe in one of the landings. Out of the three beds we had, one was unusable (the slats had gone so the mattress sagged out), the other two were fairly comfortable. Breakfast was chaotic - one toaster for a lot of guests meant a long wait, and there wasn't a great deal of space to sit down. The staff at reception were helpful and friendly, which alongside it's location (an easy walk to the Museum Quarter) were the only redeeming features. Although the camaraderie that developed at breakfast amongst those of us there for more than dope and beer was amusing - we all congratulated ourselves for surviving the night! For Amsterdam, it's cheap. But you really don't get more for your money. Next time I think I'll spend much more on a hotel, in the knowledge we won't have to worry about crumbs attracting mice....
“Hostel, not a hotel”
It could not be called a hotel. It is a youth hostel! No furniture, no phones, rooms extremely small and not realy clean. We were required to pay before we check in! Mice live in this place, so people should not!

The former is the huge national art collection. The Stedelijk is largely cutting-edge post-1945 art. The Van Gogh is home to 200 of the artists paintings. Nearby Leidseplein is the centre of Amsterdams more raucous nightlife, with famous clubs such as Paradiso and Melkweg. By day, visit the Art Deco Café Americain.
