“basically very good”
this is not the ritz, or a hostel. its a very nicely priced hotel that is very comfortable and offers everything you need for a city break. i read some complaints about the room sizes, but you have to get real this is amsterdam the steps are steep and space is a at premium. this is the quality of the buildings in the centre of amsterdam not hotel design, in fact hotel design was probably bottom of the list when the building was first built. another point was the breakfast, personally i loved the just turn up before 10.30 and help you self to toast and jam, plus the coffee is on 24/7 which is great. i prefer to help my self than have to wait on service. the beds, the bathroom, the ironing board, the tv, the safe that fits your laptop in and most of all the staff who didn't turn their noise up at you when you stumbled in at late o'clock were great.
“Great find”
Hotel was in a perfect spot on a canal, close to lots of sightseeing. The area was so peaceful The hotel rooms were so quirky , clean bathroom well appointed and beauutifully clean, with fresh white towels daily. Paloma was particularly helpful when I needed to see a Dr..Fantastic street nearby with lots of quirky shops, coffee shops and boutiques.., lots of little eating places. I had read about a boat which took stray cats which turned out to be round the corner on the Singel, that is worth a visit. Always like the Dutch people, so friendly. Would definitely stay again..
“The name says it all”
The name says it all. This hotel is Chic and Basic. The hotel is a short walk from the train station and overlooks a canal in a better part of the city. It is also a short walk to the Anne Frank House and Dam Square. While the hotel may not provide all the amenities of a Four Seasons, they offer all the necessary amenities such as free bottled water, coffee, toast, etc. We were also able to rent bicycles from the front desk. The rooms were also clean and nice and ours overlooked the canal.
“Perfect place to stay for few days and enjoy Amsterdam”
The hotel was clean, Internet was working properly, and the overall experience was extremely good. The staff is very kind and helpful. The hotel itself is full of stairs.. so if you have a problem with it you should ask (if there are any) rooms at the first floor. Our room was quite small, but very comfortable. We really liked the small hints left around about the `basic & chic` features.. very funny.
“Great Staff - Great Location - Great Coffee”
The staff was wonderful. Our room was very nice. The wireless worked fine. The last night we moved to a room with a canal view - Beautiful The free coffee is delicious Nothing bad to say about this place. My son and I just want to say Thank You
“excellent”
nice staff, good location, good hotel.
“our room was great”
The room were clean and service was excellent. The staff was very helpful and and they all seemed to speak a number of languages including English which was very helpful to us. no elevator might be a problem for some. Staff carried our bags then refusede to take a tip! Very basic no fancy ballrooms, no pool, no resturant in the hotel (many near-by) We would definately stay there again. In fact after seeing some of the fancier and more expensive hotels in the area Chic & Basic would be our firsty choice if we went to Amsterdam again
“'Chic & Basic' - yep, I'd go back!”
In the booking request I had asked for a twin room and for it, if possible, to be ready as we were arriving at 10am. It was a double bed and they changed us to another room that wasn't ready but we were at least able to leave our bags here. The reception staff were lovely and friendly. There was a supply of teas and coffees that you could help yourself to which was great. The best thing was having a bath instead of just a shower, great for soaking our aching limbs after loads of walking. The hotel is in a fab position, only a 10 min walk from central station and close to the cool Jordaan area. The room was a bit small, but for sleeping in was totally fine and all really clean, it was great for a 2 star hotel and I'd defo go there again. We could control the heat in the room on the radiators which was good. We didn't have a view over the canal which was a shame. It's on a pretty quiet canal so no noise in the night at all and we slept really well, nice comfy beds.We walked everywhere from the hotel, down to the Anne Frank which isn't far & into the red light. Then from hotel to Van Gogh and around DePijp area.I'd book it if you want somewhere clean and fresh and within easy reach of all the touristy bits. There is a nice street nearby at the top of the canal..something like Harleem-somthing...nice cheese shop and lots of cool little boutique-y shops and we had some fab pizza and a lovely red in Toscana.
“Very satisfied”
This hotel was in an ideal location, and for the price point, provided all the services and amenities you can expect and more. Free internet and wifi in all the rooms, friendly staff, and comfortable rooms. We will definitely recommend to all our friends.
“great location, modern and clean”
The location is brilliant. Decor very modern. Really clean. Free hot drinks and internet usage 24/7. By far the best budget hotel in Amsterdam we have seen.
