“Tunnel construction around as the main impression”

Mixed feelings - that is probably the best description. Sheraton bed the most comfortable thing for sure. Beautiful massage in the wellness center - but practically no other activities - the trainer of pilates and aquaerobic left for good as I was said. Nice people in the reception, doing their utmost to make my stay as comfortable as possible - but the tunnel construction surrounding the hotel, active around the clock was extremely unpleasant. It is noisy, smelly, dusty..... I am quite surprised the hotel does not provide e. g. free shuttle bus to the beach. If going for a business trip to spend just thee night in the hotel, I would not hesitate to come again. But I would not select it for my vacation again until the construction is completed

“Not 5 Stars”

This hotel was decent, it had a great lobby and restaurants and had all the features of a normal hotel, but definitely not what I would expect from a 5 start hotel. First of all, the front desk staff couldn't answer any of my questions about the hotel like what water sports were offered on their private beach. They also couldn't help with anything I asked about the surrounding area and sent me to track down the concierge. The hotel room was very clean and the bathroom was amazing with a deep tub, separate shower, toilet and bidet. But the room it's self was tiny, just a little bit bigger than the bathroom, with barely enough room to walk around the two twin beds that had to be pushed together because there wasn't even room to have a walking space between them. The room was very bland also, white walls, white bedspread, no art, and no color except for two green chairs and an orange headboard. This was very strange since everything else in the hotel was richly decorated. The beach-side restaurant was closed, which was not mentioned when I made the reservation which I thought was disappointing since I had considered it a highlight of the hotel. The front desk told me the cafe at the pool closed at 8pm, so we tried to order something at 7:05pm and were told that they didn't accept orders after 7pm and wouldn't serve us anything. Since all the other restaurants in the hotel have a dress code, we had to go up and shower and change before we could eat anywhere.

Area recommendations
The Central Market aka Main Souk is very nice, newly built in 2010, it is much nicer than the other traditional Souks in the area and is indoors which is nice when it's 110 degrees in the summer. It is a good place to go to get traditional cultural merchandise.
What to pack
Women should definitely be aware to dress conservatively in this city. Before going I read that the city was relatively liberal and that normal western dress would be fine. But once I got to the city I realized that women who didn't cover their shoulders and had shorts or skirts at least to their knee were very out of place.

“Excellent Hotel in Abu Dhabi”

This is among the best hotels I have stayed in. The staff was very helpful to ensure my needs were met. The attention to detail was impeccable. The room design was beyond anything I have ever seen as far as the decor. The bathroom actually had a TV speaker so while showering or in the bathroom, i could still hear the TV. I did many tours and all were very good. The attention I received from everyone there was something I have not found in the USA. This hotel has definitely become my #1 choice for my next visit to Abu Dhabi.

Area recommendations
The shopping mall was very nice. Many of the restaurants have foreign workers, such as Filipinos and Indians, so English is widely spoken there. The Mexican restaurant at the hotel had very good food along with the live Mexican band. The Italian restaurant was average as far as service. The waitress sat me down but never came back to take my order. I ordered a soup but the rice that was supposed to be in the soup was mistakenly left out. The service there just wasn't up to par. The people in general were very nice and it was safe to be out around 3am. No crime there, which was very nice.
When to go
I went in April and the weather was very hot. It was around 104 degrees during the day but the good thing was the sunset that occurred around 5pm, I always came out around 6 or 7pm unless i was doing a tour. i was told by the locals and foreign workers the best time to come there is around Jan/Feb time frame. Even the foregin workers take their vacations during June/July to return back to their homelands to escape the heat.
What to pack
Make sure you bring pants since this is a Muslim country, some of the sightseeing places will not let you enter if you are wearing shorts. I went to the Emirates Palace Hotel where Sex and the City 2 was filmed. I had on pants and was able to get plenty of pics. The second day I went, I had on shorts and the security guard would not let us in. Also, when you visit The Grand Mosque, if you are wearing shorts, you must put on a Kandura (the muslim long sleeve white robe). Igf you have on pants, then you are fine. Shorts are fine if you are just walking around and sightseeing. The local people however, do not routinely wear shorts. You can tell the locals from the foreign workers by how they dress.
Shopping
The Dubai Mall was awesome. Did lots of shopping and eating at very nice restaurants there. Went to the 29 Palms and took pics. Dubai is much more expensive than Abu Dhabi.
Nightlife
There was a karaoke bar ran by filipino staff that was very good. The ambiance was very nice. The hotel night club was very empty each time that I went. There are plenty of clubs around the hotel about a 5 min walk.

“Left early due to surrounding construction works”

We would have really enjoyed this hotel except for the surrounding construction works. We had a baby in a pram and found it difficult and dangerous to cross any roads leading from the hotel. Having just spent a great week in Dubai, this was too hard to live with so we stayed just one night of the three we had booked and paid for (no refund) and headed back to Dubai. Having said that, we were not disappointed with the hotel itself -we ate that night in the Italian restaurant and really enjoyed it (good atmosphere and service, food and drink cheaper than Dubai). All the restaurants appeared to be full but we suspected that one of the reasons for this would have been a reluctance to leave the hotel - on foot anyway. Other strange thing we found, and this could be the case for all Abu Dhabi hotels, is that we had to go through airport type security at every entry to the hotel. The restaurants which also had external access could only be accessed internally. Obviously from earlier reviews the construction work hasn't put other people off and if we were looking to spend three days around the resort (great pool area) we may not have minded so much but we hadn't been planning to do that.

“Very Satisfied...from Doha”

For a few extra $'s we were able to access the "Lounge" on the 7th? floor where they offered juices, water, an assortment of sandwiches, cheese, and fruit. The extra dollars also allowed us to attend happy hour at Cloud Nine where we had a couple of beverages that we did not have to pay for. There were also appetizers available. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. The Extra $'s also gave us internet access...however unbeknownst to us I believe all guests get one free hour of internet access at the "internet cafe" located across from Cloud Nine. Personally I think every hotel should provide "free" internet access, wireless or otherwise to ALL paying guests! Anyway, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Sheraton and would stay again...if and when the UAE gets rid of the requirement for a very expensive visa for Canadian residents!! Not the Sheraton's fault of course.

Getting around
Use the city taxis. They are plentiful and MUCH cheaper than the 'limos' that are outside the hotel. Taxis can easily be flagged down on the main road right outside the hotel.

“Top value for money”

We were exceptionally pleased by the variety of amenities at this hotel - we really didn't need to go anywhere for anything except sightseeing. The staff, a mixture of Arab, Thai and Indian, were extremely helpful and friendly. The only drawback was the roadworks outside the hotel, it made it difficult to cross the roads and to go for a walk but taxies were easy to come by directly outside the hotel and they are fairly cheap. We were fortunate to get a great deal through Expedia ( much cheaper than booking direct with the hotel) and this made our stay even better.

Area recommendations
City centre as it is easy to get to anywhere from here - but leave lots of time to go anywhere during the rush hours.
When to go
October to May - lovely temperature with little humidity and no mosquitos or sandflies.
Getting there
Etihad airlines are tops.
Getting around
Taxies are relatively cheap and numerous.
Must see
The Great Mosque
Shopping
Lots of cheap clothing and incredible Bling ( costume jewelery) but make sure you bargain for it.

“Sam”

The hotel is very nice. We enjoyed our stay there. However, the hotel did not offer anything other than a valete parking which was a violation of our car rental agreement. With our luck the hotel driver brought our car back with a big dent. As a result, we wasted a full day of our vacation chassing a police report. If you plan to rent a car, avoid this hotel.

Area recommendations
I would recommend staying close the corniche street in Abu Dhabi. Most of the events' locations and shopping areas are close to the the corniche. I also recommend traveling to the UAE between November and March. It is simply too hot in the summer there.
